Okay - with all you whiners going on about the anonymous posts - I decided to try again to register. But what I don't get is how come there is no picture thing - you know, like the lightning bolt, and a cartoon character or - you know, the "face"? Where is it? Am I doing something wrong? Look . . . I'm not registering unless I can choose a cool icon! - Leigh

Once you have a profile (after registering), click where it says "Profile" over there on the left column of these pages.  Down at the bottom of the profile screen it says "show avatars".  Click that.  That's where they are.

And, if anyone wants to add avatars or smileys, just let me know. I think we could use a bunch of "POW" and "BAM" and "OOF" type icons in the smilies collection.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by an endless series of hobgoblins; all of them imaginary.

Hi Leigh,
You have to register first, then go to "profile" I think.

Okay, I did all that - the registering, the avatar and the profile, and I keep logging in, but - so far it hasn't worked . . .OH! You know what, when I post THIS part of the message - I haven't been putting in my username and password at the top of THIS page! Okay - let's see if it works!

Well, I do put most of them in the database. So it's skewed already to things that I agree with or am interested in (there are some Hitler quotes in there just to illustrate similarity to some current thinking)

But no. I haven't been choosing them. I just keep looking at the ones that land in different post and wondering if my pranksterish dead relatives are looking over my shoulder and having a little fun.

Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar.

I was hoping you would say that!
I sometimes wonder that same thing myself.
