u can close hla but something just like it will spring up next becase there will never cease to be kids who piss off there parents, and parents who send them away, and people who profit off of it
I can appreciate your sentiment Max. But, there is another issue, one that's being addressed on a larger scale. One of informed consent.
Parents are not aware of what they are actually purchasing when they place their child in a TBS. As accurate information makes it's way into the public, the industry will be forced to change or die a natural death. Those of us who have been involved with advocacy for years are witnessing this effect. The industry is in defense mode. They are scrambling to preserve their reputation.
There's only one reason this is ocurring. People telling their stories and exposing what actually is happening behind closed doors. That is why we bother.
Because I 'bothered' to report HLA/RC to the Office of Regulatory Services, RC was forced to licensure and be monitored by the state. Consequently, around that same time HLA changed their restriction diet and a few other things that I'm not recalling at the moment.
That is why "we live in the past", as you choose to put it. You certainly are not obligated to join that effort, but you also have no justification for judging those who work for change, which includes sharing experiences 'inside' the facility. The wheels can not even begin to move in the direction of change until the reality of what's actually happening is exposed. Without those stories, only the kids and staff will know. Doubtful that kids will even tell their parents, due to program conditioning.
