survivor of a straight survivor
« on: February 26, 2003, 09:46:00 PM »
hi everyone.  i am really a passive observer of this site, i wasn't in any brainwash program like straight, but i was involved in a three year relationship with someone who was and so witnessed the effects first hand that these programs have had on people.  unfortunately our relationship dissolved before we could work through all the past baggage we both carried around, but have maintained a friendship and started trying to heal.  Now i have a better understanding of a lot of the problems we had together, they were not her fault and had everything to do with straight.  i know that finding this site has been overwhelming for her but also a relief, a breath of fresh air after years of thinking she was alone.  thanks to all who are involved with this site, and keep helping each other.  not only does it help the survivors, but also the people who love them.

The wounds are deep and have left an everlasting impression on my psyche too--even though i didnt participate in the program either.  It is hard to live with. Believe me, knowing what these people have been through lets me be able to count my blessings everyday.  My only hope is that a parent who is looking for a place to send their child will stumble upon these boards and realize that in order to heal a family is by healing themselves first.
