PUBLIC HEARING The Juab County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Thursday April 19 2001 at 8:00 in the County Commission Chambers located at 160 North Main Nephi. The purpose for the hearing is to receive public comment on a request for a Conditional Use Permit by Mark & Cheryl Sudweeks to establish and operate an Equine-assisted school for non adjudicated teens. The proposed school would be located in Section 1 T14S R1W on parcel XD -3630-1-2.

Published in The Times-News, Nephi, Utah on 4/4/2001, 4/11/2001, and 4/18/2001.

----------------------

Is this how most schools get started in Utah?  With a hearing to receive public comment?  What about the industry in general?  Since most programs employ people from the community and nearby towns, it seems like an economic as well as safety (e.g. adjudicated vs.non-adjudicated youth?) issue as well.

Any comments?

Yea, that's rather pitiful considering Mark Sudweeks was found guilty of extreme animal/horse abuse in Canada; was fined over $100,000 and was banned from owning horses in Canada for life.
REGINA vs SUDWEEKS.

So, the Sudweeks move to Utah, and want to open up an Equine Horse Program?

The Sudweeks advertise, and tell parents that their daugher Trinity was trained by Monty Roberts, THE HORSE WHISPERER to run this so-called Equine Horse Program, too.

Yea.....

Animal abuse is right up there with child abuse.  Both animals and children are dependent upon adults to care for them.  What is wrong with the state of Utah? Many of these troubled teen programs in Utah also have a history of using kids to take care of the ranchhand chores on their ranches under the guise of teaching them respect for discipline.  What a deal, eh?

Klenna Kleene Valley, BC Canada:
The 29 starving horses and 7 dogs were seized by the BC SPCA in January 2001.......
Then, the Sudweeks are applying for an Equine Horse program in Nephi, Utah in April 2001.

The absolute nerve of some people, huh?

Weren't they forbidden to own animals in Canada as a result of their conviction on animal cruelty charges?
