yea, I did, was nice and it took me back.  I like the lyrics better than the music.  I would rather listen to the older music "UmmaGumma" up to "the Wall", although you dont get as much of Roger Waters guitar back then.... its a trade off....Thanks.

Actually the Wall was after the Animals wasnt it?  So I dont know, I guess I just liked some of the other albums better........

So really Who getting back to the sdubject of ASR, as a parent who sent your daughter there to reap therapeudic benefits what did she get out of the following things?

What is the therapeudic benefit of strip searching ALL kids including those who have never taken drugs as ASR has a tradition of doing?

What is the therapeudic benefit of friendship bans?

What about workshops which have kids curled up in the foetal position crying? ASR again.

How does banning certain books like Apocalipse now help a kid to grow emotionally?

Why is emotional growth more important that intellectual growth anyway?

How can anything be therapeudic if the patient is not a willing participant?

How does physical restraint as shown to the world on Brat Camp (afterall Aspen are the industry leaders) fit in with medical principal "above all else do no harm"

n case you\'re worried about what\'s going to become of the younger generation, it\'s going to grow up and start worrying about the younger generation.-Roger Allen

I like the music (and the words) on Animals. David Gilmour's playing is superb on it. Its songs are (at times) way more upbeat than Wish You Were Here. So I like that about it. Animals is a great rock album; The Wall is like more of a rock opera or something. Good in its own way, but Animals is a more interesting musically.

I'm a fan of the early stuff too, despite the fact that I first heard it in the mid-80's.

Up to The Wall the albums were released in this order:

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
A Saucerful of Secrets
More
Ummagumma
Zabriskie Point
Atom Heart Mother
Meddle
Obscured By Clouds
The Darkside of the Moon
Wish You Were Here
Animals
The Wall

I am not sure they advertise it as a therapeutic benefit per se.  I see it more as keeping everyone safe.  For example when my daughter  was at ASR wilderness for a few weeks, what benefit would it be for someone new to show up with some drugs, or some alcohol or cigarettes or anything that would set them back or put them off track.

What is the therapeudic benefit of friendship bans?

If two people are being counter productive to each others course, running away together, helping each other to avoid doing any work then I think they should be separated.  Some kids make poor decisions when it comes to friendships, that?s why some of them are there. They do this in any high schools also.

I cant speak to the therapeutic benefit of this, its not my area.  I think many kids and adults take to the fetal position when they are feeling vulnerable or are achieving a breakthrough maybe in a therapeutic setting.  I would redirect this to a professional.

Many, many books were banned from reading not just that one.  Its not that the school didn?t want you to ever read them, its just they didn?t want you to read them at that time.
Its like if a few of you were kicking the soccer ball around the field during football practice.  The coach would get pissed and make you run laps or do push ups till you dropped.  Its not that he necessarily dislikes soccer, but it is the wrong time and place for it.  Its time to focus on football.

I don?t think it is

I don?t believe it can

I saw a small clip on utube and I just cant form a judgment based on that.  I don?t know which holds are approved and which are not.  Which are safe for the child and which are not and when they should be used.  My daughter wasn?t slammed around nor did she witness anyone being slammed to the ground or physically hurt, I know there are other stories where it happened I just don?t know the boundary conditions or circumstances.

Ganja, thanks for the list.  I think looking at the order they came out I was going thru a tough time when Animals was released and probably dont bring out the best of memories.  The music is superior to most of what is in the wall, but just reminds me of a difficult time., I think is all....

What occurred was she was given a new set of clothes to go into the wilderness portion of the program, which were much warmer than what she had.  There was a female counselor with her, so I guess this served 2 purposes:
  1. To insure she wasn?t taking anything forbidden that could be hidden in her clothes up to the camp and
  2. To insure she had well insulated clothing.

Yes I knew she had to change into other clothing with a female counselor present.  Yes I know there were no males present, because I was there.

Thanks, Bob, it really does.   I have heard many insinuations that kids are stripped searched with members of the opposite sex present, although I am sure this has happened somewhere at some point in time, it is not acceptable practice in any school that I have heard of.  ASR particularly has a zero tolerance for anything like this.  As you pointed out, I think this should put to rest, to parents anyway, any beliefs that this occurs at any level in reputable schools, it just doesn?t occur.
