I am also from Australia and watched this excellent pprogram on debunking the myth of WWASP.  I was DISGUSTED that this can be allowed to occur.  Who is running America..... the corporate dollar - its not the youth i am worried about, its the leaders>>>>

How did this documentary come to be made?  What's the connection with PURE, if any?

I'm not all together sure how the French got in touch with Susan/PURE - but they did.

She set up interviews with some of the Trekkers; or, through various Trekkers connections, with other post wwasp families.

There was a lot of upset at one point, when word leaked out the French intended to call the documentary "American Eats its Young". But they (the French dudes) assured Susan this wasn't the case - and told me when I asked about it, this was simply the name of a song they intended to use as a back drop. Apparently, its a hit song over seas. Mathieu seemed surprised I wasn't familiar with it.

I assume they (the French dudes) wanted to attend the trial, and do some filming and interviewing, because of the information that was bound to result from the testimony - and the chance to catch the WWASP dudes on tape. Not having seen the film, I have no idea if any of the Salt Lake City, WWASP V PURE trial film was used - but they did do a lot of filming.

They also brought Steven F. of Paradise Cove / High Impact with them. So, I assume he was interviewed for the film.

Anyway -  other than using Sue as a contact source, I feel safe saying there is no connection.
Lots of media persons have used Susan as a source of contacts to interview for stories related to WWASP.
This is in no way unique to the French - I'd guess, its just that they were such a prominent and interesting presence during the trail, that makes them seem unique.

Yeah I'm pretty sure these guys were up in Seattle last year too... I remember the girl from H.E.A.L calling me up about an interview with a french film crew.. Seems like they traveled the whole country getting this documentary put together..

A lot of people have sent emails into the production company to get a copy, so hopefully we can...

They showed small sections of the pre-trial deposition interviews with Ken Kay, Jay Kay & cronies and footage outside the trail but none of the actual trial.

It also made into The Guardian, a communist party newspaper as a program worth watching.

The Communist Party of Australia is Big on human rights and especially critical when human rights are violated/abused for profit.

It would be better if could get some more mainstream media. The station it was shown on SBS is publicly owned.

Publicly owned is fine by me. Frontline, NOVA, Nature and Masterpiece Theater are all aired on PBS.

Someone mentioned the French being all over the map doing interviews - yeah - I know that's the truth. For a while, it reminded me of when I was a kid on Christmas eve, when the news would pretend to be tracking Santa Clause. "Where are the French now" was a frequent topic of conversation.

Thanks Karen - by the way, how about an update on your own kid?  Is he still at Abundant Life Academy in Utah/Mexico or is he back home? It's been awhile since we've heard anything about this particular program in spite of the fact that we all know WWASPS ain't the only controversial program of it's kind.   :wink:

Huh? Why isn't your kid our business? He was in a WWASPS program, before being sent to another controversial program (this one selling Jesus and not Joseph Smith as the way to salvation) was he not?  Why is he any different than all these other kids you have so much concern about?  

Seriously ... what gives?  Lots of kids who were in a WWASPS program have ended up in another program (or programs) before their parents finally wake up and realize they have been taken for a ride but again.

Seems to me these kids should not be forgotten.

Wait a sec, didn't Scheff work for WWASPS for awhile as a recruiter?  How many kids did she have a hand in sending to TB or Paradise Cove, Spring Creek Lodge, CCM, CSA, CBTS, before she started PURE (a referral business that is paid by the programs, themselves)?

Oh, that's right.  The Trekkers don't care about that because anything that hurts WWASPS is a good thing, right?

For example - I Hope Carey Bock's twins are doing well - but I wouldn't demand the info be plastered on Fornits.

I hope Susan's daughter is doing great - but I wouldn't dare insist she post it on the net.

Susan - yeah - she was once the referral diva for WWASP. I wouldn't say that the people who make up the Trekkers don't care - so much as they are willing to forgive a repentant heart. It was believed by all that she had indeed repented of her roll in referring kids to negligent and abusive programs. Some now think that was a mistake.

CCM - a Trekker was a member of a email list serve. Sue Scheff ran it (or runs it) deciding who is allowed on, or who must be kicked off. Most of the members were parents who had had a child in a wwasp program and had come to regret it. If you want a more detailed explanation feel free to PM or email. But really - there's not that much to tell.

One tid bit worth noting - It was the Trekker email that Cary Bock sold to WWASP for 25 grand.

You have got to be kidding?  "Most" of the Trekkers have come to "regret" their affiliation with Sue Scheff and PURE?  

Baaaaaaaaawahahaaaa ... guess that means there are still a couple of airheads out there still buying snakeoil and drinking the koolaid rather than face the bitter truth.

As for Carey Bock, nobody but the Trekkers thought she did anything wrong by turning the tables on a group blinded by their b.s. affectation for their self-proclaimed leader (Sue Scheff).  In fact, I think most people who know the WHOLE STORY (not the sanitized Trekkers/PURE version which consisted mostly of vicious, vile name calling and threats) don't really give 2 cents how much money Carey made or how.
