You're right. Jared Copeland who it seems is the new assistant director of Sky View was my Family Rep at Spring Creek Lodge. How a family rep qualifies to manage a school we'll never know. Orval Hagerman who is the new director of this school was also a staff member but all he did was help his son run the technology department sometimes at Spring Creek. At least that's all I ever saw him doing. I don't understand how these two simply up and start a school being such nobody's in the education field.  This one really has me thinking. - kev http://www.antiwwasp.com

This shit is from their website, fucking hilarious:

"The Cactus Story
All too often in many of our public and private schools, some staff fail to make connections with their students. These students may feel ignored or that no one cares about them. A lesson might be taken from the high desert cactus that grows near SVA. It seems dormant and lives mostly unnoticed; even shunned because it isn't always pleasant to deal with. Unless the innate possibilities of this nondescript desert plant are realized through the right amount of sunlight and moisture, its potential is never realized. However, when the cactus receives what it needs, not only does it begin growing to its potential, it blooms into one of the most unique and spectacular flowers in nature.

Our hand picked staff provides our students the nurturing necessary to help them find and develop God's purpose for their lives. They do this through patience, structure, discipline, healthy activities, discussions, Bible study groups, Christian values, and positive peer interaction. Our staff's dedication to develop a personal connection with each student as a guide and a mentor helps our students to realize their potential. Each student is considered unique and valuable and each student is given the opportunity to bloom like the desert cactus."

Reminds me of the cake bullshit...your kid is like a cake, might look ready but don't pull it out too early or it will fall.....like a cake takes 2-3 years to bake.  Only a hick could come up w/this shit.  I smell a WWASP.

I've been playing around on the site too and most of the links don't even work. The cactus story is a piece of art. Get real! Yap, smells like WWASPies to me.

If these guys worked for WWASP in the past then what could make us believe they won't treat the kids the same way they were treated in other WWASP facilities? Uh, nothing!

Here's who the website is registered to, in Montana. I was surprised it wasn't Utah, though it makes plenty of sense since now Utah passed the bill for regulating these places and Montana has none. Not yet, anyway. At the moment they are pretty much self-regulating with a board put together by the governor's office consisiting 3 program people and 2 from the general public. Makes you wonder how they can even being to think that's fair. Obviously they don't care.

Hopefully the bill to regulate the facilities will be up again in a couple of years. Regulation is not everything but at least it gives a foot in the door to dig for information if there are complaints, etc.

Here's the info (hmmm ... wonder who "Scott" is, Orval's brother?):

Here's a little about Orval:

Throughout my career in public schools, I had always looked for better ways to meet student's needs. Public schools were having more and more problems with their ability to handle students and meet their needs. In the early '90's, the small school where I worked noticed an ever rising drop out rate. I developed a plan to solve the problem and showed the school board and other administrators how it could be done with no increase in costs to the district. I was given a year trial for the first small-school alternative program within the existing high school in Eastern Washington.

It was successful and cut the drop out rate appreciably. I continued to run the alternative school within a school for the next five years. Having graduated three of our own children, and after twenty-seven years in public education in the state of Washington, my wife and I decided to retire. We moved back to our original hometown from where we had both graduated high school and her parents still lived. I was tired of fighting the problems created by increased state and federal bureaucracy and elected and appointed officials who made more and more of the decisions that negatively affected schools once directed by communities. Seldom, in my opinion, was the student's best interest the over riding reason used by these people. Values, once an important part of education, were no longer allowed to be taught. Students could not be held accountable because of the "system" and I saw more and more students in the regular classroom never reaching their potential. I was therefore done as an educator.

It just wasn't meant to be however; the Lord had different plans for me. Within two weeks of our move, I noticed an ad in the paper for teachers at a new private boarding school in the area and was intrigued by the idea of having kids in a controlled environment where they would not be exposed to the negative behaviors of peers or the negative influences of parts of our society. Also, a private school had much more latitude in determining how classes could be set up and students could be taught. The traditional system that most public and many private schools continued to use with less and less success could be more easily changed in a private system.

The school had already determined that individualized education was much more successful for their system, so I spent the next few years helping the system improve and eventually took over the academic department. Students no longer were at the mercy of teachers teaching to the average student, the top student, or the educationally challenged student. They did not have to become bored by slow moving classes, lost by classes moving too fast, or dependent upon a teacher dealing with continual discipline problems.

After seven-plus years of this, I got the opportunity to begin my own dream; that of building a school. Not many get a chance at fifty-seven years old to begin again.

I believe that it is important for you as parents to know me before making the difficult decision of sending your son or daughter to a boarding school. That is why I have written this information and attempted to give you insight into the type of person I am and what drives me to want as many students as possible to become successful. Along with this, you must, prior to enrolling your son or daughter, meet with me, or at least meet with me when you bring him or her. The following will give you an even more personal understanding of my career and beliefs.

When I received the opportunity to start a school of my own my dream was for a school designed to give kids the opportunity to excel in their studies and learn to develop and function in healthy relationships without fear. This school would provide a safe environment that focuses on the positive goals in their lives. This school would have a caring staff that would share the student's goals with a willingness to help them reach them. This school would also provide individualized classes that could help a student catch up or go beyond in his/her studies while also providing healthy, fun activities. Sky View Academy is where our dream comes true.

And about Jared: (looks awefully young - wonder if he's a graduate?)

I began working with youth at the age of twenty-one, and since then, I have seen many choose to make positive changes in their lives. I love being a part of that change and seeing the light come on in their faces with the coming of the knowledge that they are valuable and of great worth. I have grown to love working with teens because they inspire me to keep improving myself every day. I have worked in several positions at two different private schools, and those positions have given me the experience necessary to excel in my current role as Assistant Director at Sky View Academy. This career is rewarding to me because I get to see people change, grow, and overcome obstacles in their lives. I look forward to going through this journey with you and your family.

    Jared Copeland

They're so bullshit, they love to see the "light come on in their face" - give he was from Spring Creek.

That's so true!! I smell 'em too!

From their site:

Anything smell of WWASP?

Northwest Association of Accredited Schools

Independent-based course of study

SVA also teaches accountability, values, integrity, respect, honor and responsibility

Is licensed by the Nevada State Department of Private Schools and by the Department of Human Resources Division of Child and Family Services - CSA is licensed by the Dept. of Social Service in South Carolina. Look how much it helps those kids .....

specialized academic curriculum to assist students who do not do well in the traditional classroom setting

SVA also provides a structured, consistent, supervised, wholesome environment that is critical to most students' academic progress and success

academic curriculum is an individualized and competency based system

Students must demonstrate mastery before moving forward in their classes

SVA provides seminars

The school benefits adolescents that are in need of an opportunity to be taught in a self-directed, structured format

I still can't get over the cactus bullshit: each student will be given the opportunity to bloom like the desert cactus.

Thrown in the cactus would be more in line with WWASP.

Scott Hagerman is Orval Hagerman's son, and he runs the technology lab at Spring Creek, and also designed the websites for Spring Creek (www.blueslide.com) and now he's designed Sky View's site as well. I'll say it again, I really don't believe these two (Jared and Orval) are qualified to run this place.

WHAT ORVAL IS REALLY SAYING:

I WAS TIRED OF FOLLOWING THE RULES THAT WERE SET UP BY APPOINTED OFFICIALS TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN IN THE STATE I LIVED IN, SO I MOVED TO NEVADA.

I THINK I AM DIFFERENT, AND PLAY BY A DIFFERENT SET OF RULES BECAUSE AFTER ALL THE PECKING ORDER IS 1.GOD 2.JESUS 3.ORVAL.

AFTER BEING A PART OF KIDDIE TORTURE PRISONS FOR 7 YEARS, I LEARNED EVEN THOUGH I WAS CLOSE TO RETIREMENT THERE WAS STILL MILLIONS TO BE MADE.

SO, SOMEBODY TOOK ME UNDER HIS WING AND TAUGHT ME HOW I TOO COULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DESPERATE PARENTS OUT THERE.

NOW, I AM WELL ON MY WAY TO A FAT HAPPY LIFE.

PLEASE CALL TO ENROLL YOUR KID TODAY.

Nice job ccmgirl, your statements about what Orval is probably thinking really summarize what's happening here. What makes me sick about this is that the Hagerman's had very close ties to the owners of SCL (Cameron and Chafin Pullan). I am guessing this is where the initial investment money for the school's startup came from. These two are definitely not broke. Both own several homes and other properties not far from Spring Creek, possibly others I don't know of as well. Money seems to matter more than anything else these days. Give my site a visit if you haven't already. http://www.antiwwasp.com
