Just watch! They will, I guaran-damned-tee it. That or the silly parents or disgruntled staff. See, in this kind of group, the group takes on a sort of exhaulted, faultless life of it's own. When the people involved fuck up and get caught at it, the members and supporters (two distinct groups--members are supporters but not all supporters are members) must be at fault. See? The group can't be at fault because it's inviolate. Every member and most supporters have a vested interest in maintaining that illusion at all cost. They've invested their money, their time, severed important ties, sanctioned unconcienable acts, mostly against their own children, etc.; all in support of the inviolate high holy cause.

So the cause can't be allowed to take the blame or everybody involved has to look in the mirror each day knowing that they, not the cause, are personally responsible for all that they have done and condoned.

The blame falls, consistently, on the weakest members and scapegoats capable of bearing it to the satisfaction of a consensus of believers.

Even if HLA as an institution and Bill and Len as individuals wind up getting thrown to the wolves at the end of this round, the high holy cause will remain inviolate in the minds of the true believers. They'll just scatter to other programs and organizations or set up camp as their own, new and improved versions of same.

Even a little boy sees rottenness rewarded and good people smacked down. Unctuous rationalizations of this by otherwise sensible adults disgust little children.

Re: Tax-deductible donations to the chapel fund:

November 21, 2001

?.. As most of you are aware, another area of student life and growth we feel is crucially important is the spiritual development of our students. As part of our Spiritual Reflections program, all students participate in both on and off campus spiritual activities on a weekly basis. these special times encourage students to grow in their individual faiths as they are nurtured into maturity. We also place strong emphasis on the spiritual principles contained within the Twelve Steps for students dealing with substance-abuse issues. The recent events in New York and Washington have reinforced our already strong belief in the need for increased spiritual development in the young people of our nation and world.

We have undertaken the task of building a chapel on our campus, which will symbolize the importance of faith, worship, and reverence. This chapel will be used by all faiths on our campus. The priest, rabbi, and ministers who work with our students are all very supportive and excited that we are building this house of worship. The chapel will also e used for graduations, student assembles, and other appropriate events.

Over the past several months many of you have contributed to our Chapel Fund. The Fund recently reached the $300,000 mark. The total cost will be $1,500,000. the final plans for the building have been approved, we have sent out requests for bids, and with your continued support construction is slated to begin in March of next year.

As this year nears its end, we should reflect on the recent events we have witnessed in our world. Through the fear and losses, most, if not all of us have turned to our faith to help guide us. This is what we wish to instill in our students. We hope that you will consider how your family can make a tax-deductible contribution to the HLA Chapel Fund. Your willingness to share your resources really will make a difference in the lives of many.

Ohhhhh...  They collected $300,000.00 as of 2001 and planned on breaking ground in March of 2002.  I see.

Then, it stands to reason that there was a heck of a lot more donated to the cause than the $300k referenced in the letter.

Where did all the money go?

How far has construction gotten on the Chapel?  Has ground ever been broken?  Have donations been refunded? ()

Wait, I'm confused.  I could have sworn I read something about HLA "treating" homosexuality.

No, you're not confused.

At HLA it's "Do as I say, not as I do."  Oh yeah, and "Pay me."

I agree.  It's creepy.  I saw this nonsense at HLA.

Rudy, Jill, Dean and Lauralyn came from CEDU to work at HLA when it opened in 1994.  They brought many disturbing elements of CEDU's program with them, many of which are still being used today at HLA.

Nice legacy they've left.
