Ahhh, Steely Dan.  Some of my fondest memories involve LSD, cocaine, and Countdown To Ecstasy and/or The Royal Scam......

If you would have justice in this world, then begin to see that a human being is not a means to some end.  People are not commodities.  When human beings are just to one another government becomes obsolete and real freedom is born; SPIRITUAL ANARCHY.

Oh yeah, KOTJ was their classic live album (and first release), and the song I posted was from their studio album, Back In The USA, released right after that one. As far as a comparison b/n the two LPs -- I see it pretty much as an apples / oranges kind of thing, in that they are both great recordings, but for different reasons. A live album will usually have a certain spontaneity that a studio album generally lacks. This holds true in this case. The song I posted is one of several tight, rockin' and relatively concise numbers from Back In The USA, which despite the compressed production style, is still a great collection of songs. I would have liked it if more of these short numbers had been performed on the live one instead of the longer, repetitive stuff that ended up on KOTJ. My personal favorite of the two would be Back In The USA, but for the content, and not the form. It's not quite as raw as I'd like it, but most of the songs are under 3 minutes, and are well written and played! We can check it out next time you're over here, or I'll bring it up or whatever.
