Amy Winehouse Back to Black
R&B never got so maudlin and nihlisitic. Is this girl the white Jewish Billie Holiday of our time or what? Perfect for sitting on the verandah watching a summer storm and drinking to all the misery in this horrible world

I dunno... I guess Al Green could get kinda dark at times..
Nihilism? Hmm..Curtis Mayfield, maybe..how about 70's Isley Bros.?

White Jewish? No way, really?? I thought she was mulatto for sure, but what do I know?
The 'Lady Day' comparison is pretty dead on, though...In fact, she sounds a bit too much like Billie Holiday.. ugh...

a tune I never heard, even in the 'past', and I had lots of 'His' albums too. Hmm. well, anyone know where that rendition of "little drummer boy' that Hendrix did is? They played most of it on 98Rock the other day. just when he was gettin goin they faded it out. I hate it when they cut off his tunes. It's like blasphemy or something. I was gettin those chillsupthespine kinda feeling listening to that. He must have had the amps all hooked together on that one. AWESOME!!  8-)

some Portishead, some Lucinda Williams, some AC/DC, and Appetite by Guns and Roses.  Also Rusty Goat's Head Soup by the Stones, and a song or two ("Spiral Archatecture" and "Who Are You" from Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.  A really good Sinatra collection, to.  A good bit of Roky Erickson has been in heavy rotation on the car CD, along with a cassette copy of Killers by Iron Maiden.  Been listening to a bit of sports radio where they don't give the Jacksonville Jaguars enough respect, but they are starting to get a little more attention from the sports pundits, so that could change.  The Jags are hot right now and on a good day could beat anybody in the league, including New England.  That's on a good day, though.....on a shitty one, they'll lose to New Orleans.  They're main problem over the years has been consistency, and the lack of the Killer instinct to put away a team they have on the ropes--the Jags are notorious for losing games they had wrapped up in the late 3rd quarter.  They've been better about penalties lately and Fred Taylor is having one of the best seasons of his career.  They beat Pittsburg at Three Rivers, which is no mean feat,  and David Garrard is eclipsed only by (put on hick Tennessee accent) Peyton Manning (switch to Cah on Hahvahd Yahd) Tom Brady.  If the Jags keep things tight, they could be playing in the AFC championship game.
