"Pick Up The Pieces" is on side 1 of their self titled 1974 record.  My favorite song by them is "Twilight Zone" from 'Put It Where You Want It', which was their 1975 record.

If you would have justice in this world, then begin to see that a human being is not a means to some end.  People are not commodities.  When human beings are just to one another government becomes obsolete and real freedom is born; SPIRITUAL ANARCHY.

Ahh, thanks for clarifying that.  I will have to check that out.

Listening to Syd Barrett, Roky Erickson, Meat Puppets, and Robin Hitchcock on Pandora.  Also some kraut named Karl Blau who did a pretty cool tune called "Dragon Song".  The Syd wwas from Crazy Diamond called "She Took A Long Cold Look At Me".

btw, it's cold down here in FL, I mean it froze the last two nights.  How the hell do you guys stand it up there in PA?  I mean, cold here is nothing like cold there, but damn......

Miguel Mendez--"Maniac Psycho"

The Faults--"Lonely Place"

Consonant--"Buckets Of Flowers, Porno Mags"

Guadalcanal Diary--"Fear Of God"

Guadalcanal Diary was a great band, unfortuneately too often lumped in with the Athens crowd, notably obscured in popularity by REM, who they actually preceded.  Another underrated band in the history of rock and roll.

My pleasure.

The other night just before dark I headed outta my friends house.  The wind was blowin a mighty fierce...oh so mighty fierce. Amen.  It was about -12.  I headed outta town under darkenin winter skies on an ol' back road I know, through the farmlands...It wasn't even snowin at the time.  But the drifts were formin on the roads from the ferocity of the wind.  I was unprepared.  This is the coldest weather we've had here in a few years.

As I came down the road in 4 wheel drive I seen a vehicles headlights shinin toward me at an angle which indicated that she was caught in the ditch.  She had hit the drift and lost control in the thick, dense snow on the road.  I had to break out my chain and dig out the snow under her chassy with my bare hands, then I had to wrap the chain around her somewhere and pull her out.  My hands were turnin,  stiff and swollen within about 2 mins.  It was gettin dark and the wind was howlin.  I could feel and see my fingers literally freezing.  I had to stop fumblin with the chain at one point and get back in my truck to prevent frostbite.

Even in 4 wheel I couldn't get enough traction to pull her out.  We waited for help, and eventually we got her out.

It's wicked cold up here.  I wonder how they deal with it in Minnesota...

I try to hibernate from about Christmas 'til well, right about now...Or about 2 weeks from now...whenever the cold breaks.

Anyway, we love the snow!!!

Damn, dude, that sucks.......down here, a few miles away on the coast, guys make a good buck pulling people out of the sand on the beaches that you are still legally allowed to drive on.  I had St. John's County tags on my car the last time I got towed, so I go tthe local rate, plus I tipped the dude out with some nice buds.

Minnesota?    I'd freeze to death by September......It's 60 degrees here and I think it's chilly.   That damn Florida sunshine gets in your bones, I guess.  Give me 88 degrees and clear skies.......

Man--"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" (popularized by LEd Zep and Quicksilver.  This version, and the Quicksilver Messenger Service one, too, mention "ride Ol' Cherokee up the St. John's river", which is pretty close to these here parts)

Yardbirds--"Train Kept A Rollin'"

Thiteenth Floor Elevators--"She Lives In A Time Of Her Own"

A.W.B._Cut The Cake

This is also a 1975 release.  Seems they were pretty creative from 74-75 puttin out 3 albums in 2 years.  On the back cover of 'Cut The Cake' there is a simple dedication accompanied by a photo: "This album is for our friend and brother, Robbie McIntosh"  You can feel the loss in the music.  The music just aint as seductive without McIntosh on the drums and this album aint as tight and complex as it's predecessor.  I think the death of their drummer sent them searchin a little.  It's an alright album but it don't have the playfulness of 'Put It Where You Want It' or their 1974, self-titled record.  Still pretty funky though.  A definate James Brown influence.

AWB_Soul Searching(1976)

AWB_Shine(1980)

These 2 are slower, and nowhere near as good as their early stuff.  Shine even has a disco feel to it on certain tunes.  I'd say they never really recovered from the loss of McIntosh.

'Tell you what, 'Put It Where You Want It'(1975) is a real good record.  So far, I think that's the best I've found by them.  They got  rhythym and blues and soul and some sweet horns too.  I'm workin my way through  my AWB records right now.  Dig.

Feel No  Fret is a good one by them.  Did you know they're from Scotland?

Yeah...

I got about 6 of their records.  Not 'Feel No Fret' though.  I'll look for it next trip to the flea market.  I'm glad to know there's good AWB out there that I haven't even heard yet.

I heard they used to hang out down at the Black in OB back in the day too...

Yeah.  Now that I done listened closer...'Put It Where You Want It' is almost, and might even be in the phenomenal category.  Or almost 'cause that's some damn fine git down wid dem horns an' all...Slinky funk on the guitar...Phenomenal record.
