Fornits and Search Engines
« on: September 09, 2005, 04:33:00 AM »
I am a little concerned about the number of hits that come up for the same page in Fornits when you do a search on Google.  To give and example, if you search on "This is what They Involved My wife in", as string chosen simply because it is old, short and unique you get 4 hits.  If you click on "repeat the search with the omitted results included" you get 13 hits.  The URL for some of these starts, "fornits.com/wwf/", for some it starts "www.fornits.baremetal.com/wwf/" and others it starts "www.fornits.baremetal.com/phpBB/".  There are other permutations to do with sort order and the reply form also comes up.

Google obviously recognizes many of these as duplicates because it has omitted them from the original results.  My worry is what it is doing to the rankings.  Fornits generally comes pretty high but without all the duplicates Google (and presumably other search engines) might rank it even higher.  Isn't it possible to arrange to present fewer URLs to the spiders?  Do the baremetal ones need to be visible at all?  Wouldn't it be possible to hide most of these pages with noindex nofollow meta tags?

Well, not really. Those alternate urls are not seperate coppies of the same pages, but different paths to the exact same ones. It's just the way the server is set up and it's fairly standard.

Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize an undercover dictatorship. To restrict the art of healing to one class of men, and deny equal privilege to others, will be to constitute the Bastille of medical science. All such laws are un-American and despotic, and have no place in a Republic. The Constitution of this Republic should make special privilege for medical freedom as well as religious freedom.
