I think there's real reason for fear. I certainly don't know enough from where I sit to know what is the best way to address the problem. The problem, as I see it, goes back to a shift in our national character and identity. Sometime since WWI or so, we went from being the world's standard holder against empire to being the world's leading contender and advocate for empire.
I've read a bit of commentary on the Fitzgerald investigation. Some fairly credible opions state that Plame was invovled in investigating some shady arms dealing on the part of top Büsh admin members. I don't know if that's true or not. No way of telling from my vantage point. But it's as credible as anything else that's flying around. Just one more example of how power corrupts.
But, once you have an incredibly powerful government that's so far gone w/ corruption, what do you do about it in practical terms? How do you reel them in w/o opening ourselves up to oppression by the next group of corrupt, power hungry movers and shakers?

I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard was not what I meant.
