So is there a forum for Phoenix Institute survivors or would she possibly find people on the Straight board? Would she fit in well here?

I have a survivor who has been contacting me on the Kids of Bergen County site. She says she was in "Phoenix" in Marietta, GA in 1994 but that it used to be Straight. She very badly wants to find people she knew or that were there too. Are there any Phoenix survivors here or do they have their own forum? Anyone know? Thanks.

Wow, 4 years is a long time. I'm sure a lot of people here would know you but if you are not yet ready to post your name that is okay. I was way before your time in the mid-80's but it's always nice to have someone new on the board. Welcome.

Bob Moss married Erin Bauman. Not Erin Hanrahan.
She was from El Paso. And yes, they are still with Newton.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Completely off topic

Sorry to use the BBS for this but I've taken on this cause & it's consuming me so I thought maybe you all would like to know about it. If you don't have student loans you probably don't care so you can just skip this post but if you do, this should be of interest to you. Under the Higher Education Act of 1965 you are only able to consolidate & refinance your student loans once. If you are paying more than 2% interest right now you are being screwed and there is nothing you can do about it. When my husband & I consolidated a few years ago we got 8%. This was a great rate at the time & we were thrilled. If we were to consolidate today we could get 1.75% but we can't because it's not allowed. You can refinance you car or your house or consolidate all your credit cards but you can't refinance your student loans. There is a bill that has been proposed called The Student Loan Fairness Act of 2003 & it needs your support. I have letters to the newspaper, Congressmen, & Representatives that anyone can use. I will even look up your Congressmen & Representatives for you if you would like.
If you want copies of these letters or email addresses or physical addresses for your state's Congressmen (congresscritters as Ginger calls them)& Representatives let me know & I will send them to you. You can also go sign this petition http://www.petitiononline.com/CLAA2003/petition.html
Sorry to get political on you guys.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Anticipating New Baby
« on: January 18, 2004, 02:19:00 PM »
Congratulations on the new baby. I remember Erica well and I do think of you all often. I am so happy for you both. I have a son & daughter that are 16 months apart so I know the challenges of 2 babies so close in age but I think it will really pay off when they grow up being very close and can really be friends. I bet you all are so happy that you never had kids while you were still involved with Newton. I would not want his influence in raising my own children. I know a lot of people on this board are very proud the courage it took for you guys to leave. You deserve every happiness.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Virgil's wake???? A relation to Newton??
« on: January 12, 2004, 12:47:00 PM »
I have a question. For the people who are not married to other program people. Like Aaron & Erin & now Kristie what are their future prospects for finding someone to spend their lives with? No one who is not a member of the cult would willingly go into such a messed up situation. Even if they found someone in AA that person would not be good enough for Ruth Ann & Miller to approve. Besides when they saw what the hell was going on they would run for their lives. I think it is sad that those people will always be alone. Especially sad for Aaron. I personally think he is gay & he will never be allowed to live freely or be himself because there is no such thing as being gay, you know, "it's your drug problem" Or I guess in his case his behavior problem. Pardon me if I'm completely wrong on that one. That was just the impression I got from being in group with him.
Pete Day is Andrea Day's brother. He was there when I was in NJ in 85 before going to El Paso. I'm sure other people know much more about him than I do.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / MY FAVORITE QUOTES FROM NEWTON
« on: October 21, 2003, 09:18:00 AM »
My favorite was:

"The quickest way into someone's brain is to grab them by the hair at the front of the head."

Which is probably actually pretty true. What I'm still wondering is why he thought it was okay to use that hair at the front of my head to slam my head repeatedly into the wall.

When I was on 5th pase I admitted that I still really thought that what was done to me was NOT okay. A conference call was set up for me & he explained this to me in great medical mumbo jumbo & I was truly convinced that it made perfect sense. It was all so clear now. I graduated soon after.

I remember that one in '85 with the chainsaw at the end. Remember carving pumpkins with a spork? That was the same day I got my first & only haircut on first phase. The mom that did it cut my hair up to my ears. I looked rediculous. My mother actually laughed at me when she saw me in open meeting. I was so mad. Some of those haircut moms were butchers.

"Blue chairs & beltloops" My husband grabbed me by the back of my pants last week to get me to sit in his lap. I practically went crazy on him, poor guy. It was the weirdest feeling. I had goosebumps all over my arms & the weirdness stayed with me for hours. I begged him to never do that again. I know he thinks I'm nuts but I spent too many years being dragged around by the beltloop to think it's funny now.

That reminds me of a day off I had on 4th phase. I put in my request & it was approved. It was on the same day that they were decorating the Christmas tree in group. I went on my day off with my mom & when I returned to the building and we were in line with our newcomers Staff asked me where I had been that day. I said "On my day off" "Well you should have been here for the tree decorating." (Well then shouldn't my permission have been denied? I was thinking) I said "Well, I guess I didn't think about it" "Well, you're back on second phase" Michelle W. was also set back to second phase that night for going to work. We also had to get permission to go to work so if they wanted her in group shouldn't they have denied her work permission? DUH! Staff screwed up & we were punished for it. I think my mom was completely irate that night but of course she couldn't show it or I would have been hosted out, I'm sure.

« on: February 17, 2003, 08:46:00 AM »
Yes, I think you were there Christy. I know Mary B. & Jenny H. were there. Jenny & I have talked about it since finding these sites. She was also with me the day I had a conference call with Newton while I was on 5th phase. Staff had come to this big conclusion that something was holding me back from graduating. (uh, yeah, that would be THEM) So I had to come up with something. I said "I think that what was done to me in NJ by Dr. Newton was wrong." So this big conference call was set up for me so that he could explain why it wasn't wrong. Well, would you believe I bought it! Hook, line & sinker. He told me why it was the best thing he could have done for me at the time, I agreed, & then I graduated. I could have even repeated it back to you & convinced you it was right.
