The Desisto School, abusive treatment center
« on: May 09, 2005, 08:48:00 PM »
I would like to create a forum for people who attended the desisto school in massachusetts. I was there for 5 months in 2001 and have been permanently scarred by my experiences there. Spending 6-weeks straight in the corner one time.

That's horrible.  It's hard to believe that this type of child abuse is occuring everyday in this country.  I wish you the best and hope you can find inner peace....

I went to Desisto at Howey in Florida "81-82 8 months. I saw no abuse then and there. It is a shame that it obviously changed. It was not near as strict as these schools are now.But it was not a bad place.

Are you sure this is Desisto as in Micheal Desisto, the school that was just closed ? Im not sure were talking about the same place. I know they run a summer program in florida but as far as I know you can't just go there you had to go to the stockbridge campus.

Yes, this was an offshoot of the stockbridge school and yes it was not abusive. Mike Desisto was a jerk though. I once punched him in the face while my dorm was being dormed. He then yook me out to dinner with about 10 other students. But that was the only 2 times i had contact with him. The school was run allot different then. The school closed due to financial problems. It closed before you were at stockbridge. There is a website on msn dedicated to former desitoites. I can not give you the website, but i found it doing a search i'm sure you can also. So i hope that clarifies for you.

Did you have to empty his urine in Florida, were you ever on lock down, how may girls ended up pregnant their, did kids restrain kids, did you get let off in the middle of a country type road and left on your own to fend, did they take you to Mexico and sell your body?  That is the Desisto I know.

I cannot believe I even found this site.  I, too, went to the DeSisto school in Florida -- Howey-in-the-Hills.  I was there from 1981-1983, but I loved it.  Of course I hated it at the beginning, but it gave me the best friends I could have ever asked for and developed my personality into the creative, free-thinker that I am today.  I miss that time in my life and think about it often.

I also worked for Michael at the Stockbridge school in 1992, because I was out of work, out of options, and extremely into my alcoholism and drug addiction.  I only left because I did not want to make a 2 year commitment to working there.

I am not saying anyone is "lying", but I know what that school was really like and what Michael's intentions were.  I think some students get a little dramatic about their experiences and cloud the truth of what happened there.  That's too bad.

If anyone does know of a chat site or something dedicated to former students, could you post it?

Thanks,
Christie

Christie the site is on MSN, do a search and you should find it. It will renew allot of old friendships for you. If you remember me it's Walter. I was the little guy that played on the Basketball team. I was only there from aug.81-june 82. I was in the dorm above the cafeteria.
