it's a sad thing to see SO many ANGRY kids.
« on: April 04, 2005, 04:38:00 PM »
i can only say that i think it's a shame that so much talent is wasted on HATING!!!! That SO many kids just don't get it...and obviously NEVER WILL!!!!!!! I can honestly say that CEDU turned my life around...the friends i made there are people i could turn to at ANY time .....same with the staff!!!!!!
Maybe if some of you MISERABLE kids....cause that's what you are......could figure out WHY you are SO miserable...maybe you wouldn't be so hateful...maybe you could move on and be happy and not frequent sites that promote BASHING of something that for a lot of kids...myself included...was a GREAT experience!!!!!  I MADE the choice to go there based on MY behavior....my parents chose to assist me in living a better life........THANK GOD for THEM and THANK GOD for CEDU........it's a sad day to see schools like that close!!!!

I am thrilled that you feel good about your experience at CEDU. I hope that at some point in the future you recognize that you are responsible for your life not a defunct institution.   You 'turned' your life around.

For me CEDU was not a positive experience. I am not filled with hate, but the closure of the CEDU schools gives me a small comfort, and hope for the future.   I am hopeful that our society is recognizing that children deserve the same rights as adults.  I am hopeful that there is a societal recognition that the Behavior Modification "Therapy" is a fraud and does lead to irrevocable harm. I am hopeful that in my lifetime that a dysfunctional family can be treated in tandem, instead of isolating the squeaky wheel.

Honestly, think back to the raps and prophets -- how many students have stories of sexual and/or physical abuse?  [Nearly 100% right?]  These programs that serve to quell the squeaky wheel and return the wheel to a dysfunctional environment do nothing to address the systemic problems that caused the child to act-out in the first place.  These programs serve only to mask the symptoms.

Yes, I am thrilled that CEDU no longer exists.   And I am hopeful that the schools closure is a harbinger of a paradigm shift on how we, as a community, treat children and dysfunctional families.  Maybe, just maybe, we can start on the hard work of treating systemic challenges that lead the child to need treatment in the first place.

That's what the anon poster (second-last post) says.

I thought that kind of lunacy went out with Flower Power.

Kids do not and should not have the same rights as adults because they cannot have the same level of responsibility, which goes hand in hand with rights

Of course kids must be treated fairly with kindness and in their genuine best interests and that comes out of the adult responsibility to respect others, especially vulnerable others

So the whole premise of the anon's entry is flawed---now if you argue that CEDU doesn't meet the kid's needs that's another matter---I happen to know several kids who think it did though

I just saw  Cassian/Newton in the flesh, and I didn't hurt him!!!!!!! I'm very happy. I actually dressed comfortably, cuz I figured if I did see him, I would harm him, and go to jail, and I didn't want to freeze on the metal cell benches. That's how much this effects me to this day!!

There is a blue pickup truck in the driveway at 13280 4th St. East, with an Indiana or Illinois license plate.  I was going to photograph the license plate, when Virg himself walked out the door to check his mail !!! He was wearing his priest robes, and looked at me directly in the eye with his satanic stare!!! What a rush!!!!! I am literally shaking as I type!!

It's now 2:15 pm, on April 5th, 2005. He's there people. Go get him!!!!!!! peace, a

Hey DLF.  Why so defensive?

I too am sad to see the schools close.  I was at RMA from 1990-1993 and like you attribute the work that I did there with saving my life. Going to RMA got me out of my house and away from my parents, taught me how to be a friend, how to take care of myself emotionally and physically, and how to build a sense of family with others.  What I learned there I continue to use in my life today.

I have also come to terms with the fact that many many people who were recipients of the Cedu education did not have a positive experience.  I was vaguely aware of that when I was a student, after all, only about 50% of the folks who came though the door when I was there finished.  What happened to the others?  What I didn?t really get back then though was that the program, and the way it was delivered, just wasn?t well suited for everyone.  Not only that, as someone who is now in the mental health field, I can easily see how the confrontational and sometimes verbally abusive nature of the program could be terribly detrimental for some folks.  For me though, I don?t think that anything else would have reached me.

I don?t let myself read fronits too frequently because I find it upsetting.  There are so many people out there who are enraged, seemingly vindictive and deeply hurt by their experiences at the various Cedu schools.  On one hand I feel defensive and on the other I feel badly for them.  And, from the number of lawsuits pending as well as stories I?ve heard from people who graduated years after me, it sounds like the program changed for the worse over the years.

Bottom line for me is that I?m sad that the school and program I graduated from doesn?t exist anymore.  I guess it really hasn?t for years, but still, I think that somewhere in my mind I thought of the school as being a place that would always be there. It seems to me though that this is about evolution.  The schools were no longer helping people as they should have, and now they are gone.

Best, Mark

Been there, done that.  Kinda freaky isn't it?  I had the same reaction!!!  Shaking.  Well, the first time I saw him.  The second and third and fourth, I was ready to throw down and go for broke!!!!
