More Bullshit I Remember from Straight
« on: March 03, 2005, 07:26:00 PM »
Do any of you remember being told that "you stopped maturing when you started getting high"?

Of course, the only way to get around that was to practice Stepcraft, write MIs, and confront people in  group sessions.  Sitting in  a chair for 12 hours a day and singing "Zipadee-Do-Dah" were touted as being  effective measures, too.

I also remember Steve Meade telling the group that we had to "change our beliefs", as if that could happen magically, without evidence to support the basis for such a change.

Just another example of stupid bullshit I was exposed to at the Straight Funtime Camp for Druggie Teens.

You did stop maturing when you chose to abuse your body with drugs.  MIs and confronting people are caring ways to break through all your druggie images and get to the root of the problem, your drug use.

The songs were a way to bring some wholesome music into your depraved lives.  I can just hear the group now.."I've looked at life from both sides now....".   Those were the days.  I'll soon hear those lovely melodies again at the new faith-based Straight Inc. by the Sea.  We'll reserve a special blue chair just for you RTP and we'll have none of that misbehaving either.

Ruth, I was thinking that perhaps we should contemporize a little with the songs. Virgil?

I like this one:

I got my wine and cigarettes
These twenty cents is all I got left
Don't bother me, I'm trying to swim
I guess I'll lay around all day
Sit back and smile just fade away.
A drunk yard dog is what I am

Break out the bottle of Jesus
Plug in the black light rosary
Somebody's waiting to save me

I know my neighbors wish I'd die
I'm much too loud when I get high
I think I'll send around some pie
I'll spike that dish with a touch of herb
It'll numb their lips
And soothe their nerves
I'll build my kingdom on the curb

Break out the bottle of Jesus
Plug in the black light rosary
Somebody's waiting to save me

Be it rain or shine
I'll get high like summertime.
It's an All-Americana party time
Tell that landlord man
I'll kick that bastard like a can
It's an All-Americana party time
I don't listen to rules or Gospel
They're just trying to shut me up.
Call me the master of "ole misfortune
A weasel a weaselin' away.
Dear Lord. Hold the sight.
Oh Lord. Gonna set me free.

"Bottle of Jesus"
Beth Hart

"change our beliefs"
I recall hearing them tell this shit to us...

To speak collectively and generally we stopped maturing when we were removed from the 'real world' and got put into str8..not when we started to "become addicts."

Change your beliefs = brainwash yourself, "get honest," comply, go along with the bs, sing the songs, etc..

Yeah, I remember that. And I remember before intake jumping that fence and finding no cliff. As a matter of fact, I got more respect from my elders after I secretly started smoking up. But after I got out, I also remember having to prove it out again and to anguish over that (among a thousand other) proclamations from the demon voices.

The worst part? For a time, maybe a number of years, those Program demons spoke in a voice that mocked and pretty nearly immitated the voce of my grandmother. She was oldfashioned, always quoting Poor Richard. Never did figure out whether or not she knew it was satire, as she passed on when I was around 6 or 7; about the same time the Seed bullshit started. But, for a hellish while, I couldn't tell the difference between the voice that said "What's worth doing is worth doing well" and "A penny saved is a penny earned" and the one that said "The first drink is your choice, after that you're powerless" and "pot is a gateway to heroin addiction."

I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotism.

I really don't appreciate you making fun of my little problem.  http://www.heralopecia.com/  I'm sure your attempt at mocking me is a result of all the drugs you're on!  How typical!!
