My son was there for 10 weeks last year. Only 10 weeks. It's a very harsh environment, but if the kid needs to learn that he or she needs to stand up, line up, shut up and do as you're told, it teaches a valuable lesson. My son said he was not abused, and said that he wished the staff would be tougher on some kids who were real trouble-makers. We were told before admitting him that he would get thorough psychological testing. That didn't happen. Communication between the school and parents is TERRIBLE. The therapist he had was very insightful, but frequently was not available due to being on vacation. There was not good backup therapist coverage for vacations, holidays, etc. My son wrote that he asked for more time with his therapist, and for make-up sessions, but that never happened. We felt that we were spending a lot of money for very little professional help. If your kid is dangerous to himself or others, and needs heavy-duty behavior modification, Provo may be appropriate, but please do research first. If your kid is headed for jail, Provo is better, but not by much. If local law enforcement is suggesting your kid join the Marines, Provo may be a better choice because Marines get sent to Iraq and could get killed. You get the idea. Provo is a last resort. Provo was a nasty kick in the butt for my son. He learned that his parents would take action if his behavior was unacceptable. He's been back home for several months, and we are so happy to have him back. He's doing ok in school and is staying out of trouble. Good luck!
