Since finding this site about a month ago, Straight has been on the brain. I am starting to understand some of the things that I do (head games) and now I can try and understand them - hoefully. Last night I could not sleep and I was thinking about all the people I remember from there. I am wondering if anyone knows any info on the following people? Mainly, how they are doing and where they are in their life. I am not going to use last names out of respect for those who don't want to "outed" (that sound s funny, like we are in the closet or something)!

Marcia B
Lynn D
Leah A
Stephanie L
Deree C (sp?)
Melissa H
Scarlett
Heather B
Andrea
Chrisite R
Denise H
Linda B
Amy K
Meridith A
Bridget C

Last night I could think of so many more but now I can't remember. Thanks for any updates, I feel a connection with these people because of what we went through.

That's called Posttraumatic Stress Disorder:
Intrusive memories and emotions that interfere with normal thought processes and social interaction. Flashbacks feature auditory and visual hallucinations. For example, the sounds and images of  the Straight, Inc. program and other programs often comprise the content of flashbacks experienced by these program veterans. Flashbacks can be triggered by ordinary stimuli such as a song from group or a confrontational situation, anything that brings to mind an aspect of the event. Nightmares and night terrors also feature aspects of the traumatic event.

Dissociative symptoms include psychic numbing, depersonalization, and amnesia.

People with PTSD commonly avoid stimuli and situations that remind them of the traumatic event because they trigger symptoms.

People experiencing hyperarousal symptoms are always on the alert for danger or threat and are easily startled.

Of all the enemies to public liberty, war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other.

i]It is often tragic to see how blatantly a man bungles his own life and the lives of others yet remains totally incapable of seeing how much the whole tragedy originates in himself, and how he continually feeds it and keeps it going. [/i]  - Carl Jung

Who the fuck is this?  Are you speaking from your high school education or your staff training?
Do you really believe in all those made up mental disorders?  I think drug companies make them up to increase drug sales. They have got shit passed through the FDA and on the legal market by bullshiting (brainwashing) people into beleiving what they want them to believe.

I agree with a lot of the psyic knowledge I got in staff training, such as 4 steps of an emotion, RSA/RSC Jahari window and body language.  I also believe that emotions are normal in most circumstances.

NORMAL
Lose your job, spouce, etc = depression
someone wrong you = anger
breaking the law = paranoia

NOT NORMAL
burn your hand on stove = walk past it 25 years later, freak out and file for social security because your mentally fucked.

My mom joined the work field of psychiatry a few years back.  With her new found knowledge she labeled me with every disorder in the books.  Really, she's just been shifting all her guilt to something that makes sense to her that she can live with.

People that get into psychiatry and counseling do so because their fucked up.
