Son to start Special Education Classes
« on: February 12, 2005, 12:27:00 AM »
My 12 year old son has recently been having emotional difficulties in school. He is currently serving suspension for smacking another student with his lunch tray. It caused the student to bleed from his nose. When he is back from suspension, h will begin Special Education clases. He says he does not need Special Ed. I told him after what he did, how can anyone think otherwise? My cousin attended Special Ed classes and she said it was emotionnally demoralizing.I told her for one reason or another kids will always be teased. My cousin wants me to refuse the Special Education placement. My friend says that the ongoing violence in our house might be contributing to his behavior. My brother is mentally ill and often has violent outbursts. My son has wittnessed my brother try to throw me and my mother down a flight of stairs and threaten me with a knife. But I Do not think that is his reason for his recent struggles. What would anyone here do? Keep him in General Education or accept the reccemendation of the school? Perhaps an alternative solution?

I'd say therapy. Contact a local therapist. It doesn't sound like a mental disability and special ed would probably harm him. In talking to a counselor or therapist he'd be able to get his feelings out. It sounds as though he may have some pent up problems that need to be dealt with.

Get a real therapist and a real doc, and get second and third opinions on *EVERYTHING*.

I was a victim of many a misdiagnosis until my mom realized you need ot get second or more opinions. Also, the school system would just as soon bus him off so they dont have to deal with him. You cant count on schools to do shit.

YOURE gonna have to deal with it, unless youre trolling and dont have a kid.. in which case, buh bye
