My sixteen year old son was caught with a Playboy Magazine
« on: February 11, 2005, 04:35:00 PM »
I came home early from a business trip. I went to ask my son if he wanted to get a bite to eat at Blimpie. He went to get his coat and knocked a pillow off his bed. I went to put the pilow back in place when I noticed a Playboy Magazine next to his compforter. He knows how I feel regarding such publications. Should I begin to pat him down after every time he returns from being outside the house? How do I deal with this situation?

patting him down wont fix it...if you start doing that, they just get sneakier and sneakier.  cause and effect is the way to go....place a consequence on him for what he has done.  Unfortunately, I did not do that with my child, which is what got me where I am today.  I didnt place enough or the appropriate consequence.  At the same time, if you show him you dont trust him, then he will just learn other ways to get what he wants.

Show him a WWASP Catalog. Tell him that if need be he wi be be removed against his will if his behavior persists. Tell him he will leave crying from his bedroom in handcuffs, leg cuffs, whatever is necessary. Tell him you will invite his friends over to witness the intervention. If that does not persuade him he deserves what is coming to him.

Mikey,                            Maybe you think that because you are Debbie's son, that you think you can go around berate people looking to improve the lives of their chldren. But I do not tolerate people like you. And neither will God. God is always watching you. You will have to answer to him and then spend your afterlife burning in hell as Satan stands by.

This has got to be just another troll thread - but what the heck-

I'd toss the thing in the trash and when and if he asked about it, I'd tell him and explain such material will give him a false impression of women and sex, making it less likely he'll be satisfied in his marriage and more likely he'll become addicted to sex with paper dolls. Also, I'd explain my view that such material cheapens sex and degrades women and for that reason alone should be avoided. Depending on weather or not he wanted to talk about the subject, I might say more - but otherwise, that is ALL I'd do or say.

You'll do no good by embarrassing him.

Besides, in truth, if he were 16 and not showing some interest in such things That in itself could be cause for concern - because that would not be normal.

anon, I'd like to invite you to grow up a bit about pornography and masturbation. Its a damned fantasy. Let the kid have his damn thrills. At least hes not out fucking around, if this actually existed.

I seem to handle it without being addicted to anything or objectifying women. Well, unless she happens to get off on being objectified. BDSM sure is interesting

Some of it can be degrading, but porn doesnt 'degrade' a whole gender. I'm sure I could go find some gay S&M that 'degrades' men and show it to you but you'd probably want nothing of it.

Also, FYI, I know a mom who is pretty pragmatic and upfront with her kids about the topic. Her only objection is "do it in your room" which she only had to say when they were about 10 years old. That and she doesnt want to see things left around the house.

It worked just fine, and neither of them objectify their respective opposite sex. I can understand it if its a MORAL objection - but porn certainly hasnt made ME objectify women or treat them badly.

Infact, if they did porn RIGHT and the models were interviewed after the scenes, youd see they ARE people, and not just a hunk of wet flesh with makeup on. But well, this isnt the kidn of forum where I should be plugging porn sites.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

Everyone's got their opinion. Mine is porn isn't something I'd go and look at. And I don't masurbate. But if someone is into that then great for them as long as they don't push it on me. 16 year old? Please he could easily daydream some porn up in his head. I'd tell him to not do it in my house. When he has his own house he's free to do whatever he wants. However, my house, my rules.

Nothing wrong with that. Just some parents take it too far and take normal behavior and turn it into something villifed or 'abnormal' through their own twisted definitions.

I think your son is VERY NORMAL for a sixteen year old. Try not to get so upset. Let him know that you dissaprove of him having these and would appreiciate it if this material didn't enter your home again.
Let him know that you want him to respect women and how they want to be treated. Boys and girls alike at his age and even younger are very curious and want to know AND see everything they can.
He'll be fine.
P.S.  be happy it wasn't Hustler or worse!

Stay firm.I had a simliar altercation with my daughter regarding awful Hip Hop Music. I explained to her that I did not agree to her choice of music. I told her that as long as she lives under my roof, she will not be listening to any Hip Hop.She grew out of Hip Hip fortuanately. Snoop Dog is long dead and buried but sadly, his music is very much alive.

I'm gonna be the devils advocate here and ask you one question - wtf is wrong with porn?

Also, how does what you look at effect if you respect women or not? I dont see how erotica is going to make someone objectify a whole gender.

Sorry to step on the toes of a few people here, but what the pro-family politicians say doesnt really mean much to me. I'd like to see some facts indicating that its actually a program and actually causes that.

I've looked at it since I was 12 and I'm just fine, thanks. 8 years and I havent been messed up yet!
