How many hits does it take....
Here's a broad comparison
[link=http://www.drugsense.org/statistics/apr2000/trends.htm]Webtrends Site Popularity Comparisons[/link] DrugSense vs. Prohibition Groups
Recently, Kevin Zeese (Common Sense for Drug Policy) mentioned in a debate with a drug warrior on C-Span that the whole budget for MAP is $100k/yr as compared to the millions in tax dollars flowing through the ONDCP and AdCouncil to promote the war. And yet we're whoopin' `em rather soundly in readership. Seems maybe, given a choice, folks just don't like being lied to?
I was surprised to see them listing the competition, even in the context that they do. See, MAP has always had the policy of archiving every drug policy related article they come accross, be it pro, con or neutral. The drug warriors, otoh, have never, to my knowledge, included any conflicting viewpoints in any of their printed or otherwise published material. `Course, that's probably another reason for their popularity. They host free forums and encourage all kinds of feedback and free speech. Guess folks rather like to be heard as well as spoken to as well.
Hmm, I wonder if maybe those linked to site owners should drop Betty and assc. a thank you note?
So when Barry McCaffrey started describing the drug policy reform movement as a small, tightly knit, well funded and carefully camoflaged conspiracy to legalize drugs, I just about fell out of my chair laughing. Talk about projecting!.
I think it was Steve Heath who responded by saying something like "anyone familiar with the dug policy reform movement knows that organizing reformers on any point is about like herding cats; they just don't take to external organization. There are an awful lot of us, though. But most of us are not funded or camoflaged at all, even carelessly.
If there's a worse idea going than locking kids up for victimless crimes, it's probably locking them in close proximity to some tyrannical altruist bent on helping them even if it kills them.
