Maybe you missed the point.  That's why I referred you to Sammie's post.  Just pecause an evil person is not evil to you doesn't make that person any less evil.

There is a recent news article out about Growing Together - a direct LIFE spawn.  It's a very disturbing six page read.

Someone else is putting together a movie which encompasses all of these places - LIFE included.

Maybe those running STEP weren't as evil.  Maybe it was everything you say it was.  That's fine, Darren.  But don't minimize other people's real pain and mock them because you have your blinders on.  Yeah, some people are nasty and hateful.  I wonder what you would be like today if you were beaten, tortured, maybe even sexually assaulted?

And we all know you should believe  EVERYTHING you read!  I emailed this reporter to give him my input on the program, when he first asked for input.  He responded as interested, but when I revieled NO abuse, torture etc., he did not respond.  I emailed him again - no response.  And contacted him a 3rd time - NO reply.  Guess he wasn't looking for ANYTHING but the "paper selling" stuff.  Imagine that!

  Speaking of blinders...

And some people REFUSE to believe ANYTHING that contradicts what THEY believe/think.  Evil can fester in the hearts of people...and spew out in all kinds of forms.  Take a look at your OWN heart.  If you want peace in your life, looking inside yourself would be a GREAT place to start.  Good Luck.

Merry Christmas, peace in your hearts!

Funny.  I spent hours talking to the guy.  I told him I personally suffered no actual abuse.  We talked on more than one occasion about the methology involved, the positives and the negatives.  Maybe if you tried a pragmatic, rather than an subjective approach?

Hey, why don't you tell that kid who was sexually assaulted that his story is nothing but an attempt to sell a newspaper?

Think about your statement. Maybe it's time to check yourself.  I have no complaints about my life.

When did i minimize anyone elses experience? all i did was state what MY experiences were. when did i mock ANYONE? are you high...have you lost your mind??? what are you reading? since i have been here i have tried to keep an open mind about you and why you feel and react the way you do but you may be as nuts as everyone else says. the next time i try to relate a story i wont, since it comes off as an attack on the unfortunate ones who were abused.

What qualified Helen Peterman to run juvenile drug rehabilitation programs?

A lot of people have asked this question; not only of Peterman but of other staffers in these programs.

We know it wasn't any formal education or certification because she never had any. I think all of her qualificiations came from her direct involvement in The Seed and Seed spin offs. Having been a high school drop out then a fuckup as a parent and then joined 3 documented abusive cults consecutivly is all the qualification you need to run another one.

That's the one common thread. Dr. Miller Newton was not a medical or psychiatric doctor. His doctorate was in anthropology. In the real world, he was qualified to be a history teacher, not a drug counselor. But he put a kid in Straight, became obsessively active in the Parent group and that qualified him as executive director at Straight and founder of Kids.

Art Barker may or may not have graduated high school. The qualification that he bragged about was having been a skidrow drunk and chronic AA member.

That's the whole basis of the Synanon method; fuckups counseling fuckups. Now, in my opinion, if people want to join these cults and dedicate their lives to defining themselves and others by their maladies, ok. I honestly don't have a big problem w/ that. But when they have the hubris to force young people (and old, as they do in court ordered stepcraft 'treatment') to endure their dubious newage bullshit and they force me to chip in by way of tax deductions and public funding and they force others to participate through court ordered involvement, then I have a problem w/ it.

Essentially, I see these people as self deluded into thinking their fuckups qualify them to dictate whatever they like to whomever they see fit. They have every right in this free country to delude themselves. But they have no right to fuck w/ others or to demand public funding and public policy to their benefit.

The graduate with a Science degree asks, "Why does it work?"
The graduate with an Engineering degree asks, "How does it work?"
The graduate with an Accounting degree asks, "How much will it cost?"
The graduate with a Liberal Arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?"

Yes.  Life experience counts for nothing.  Book smarts (degrees) are the ONLY accpetable education.

Just ask Bill W.  His "treatment" concept failed immediatley, right?

You can't see how your response here http://fornits.com/wwf/viewtopic.php?to ... t=30#71882 just might come off as sarcastic?

Yeah, there are a lot of angry people out there, and most with good reason.  Your response seems to ooze with "Sucks to be you" mentality.

Yeah, Darren, you have, for the most part. But some of your comments, such as the post I referred to above really seem like a thinly veiled put down to a lot of people who don't hold such a high opinon of the program and staff.

Just because I don't agree with you and Ms. Junior Staff means I'm junkie nut? That's typical groupthink.  Why is it that you guys can't reconcile the fact that a lot of people who didn't "graduate" aren't "DeadInsaneInJail"?

Maybe it was a good idea at the time.  Maybe Bill and his buddies got their shit together by helping each other.  But maybe the "concept", like a lot of other things got bastardized along the way.

Seems the 12-step process just trades a substance dependency for a group dependency.  Tell me, if this isn't so, then why are people still doing the "Insert your favorite dependency here"Anonomous" meetings decades later?  I run into people who have been "going to group" for the last TWENTY FIVE FUCKING YEARS!!!

You can't have that booze, that "substance" or that cheesecake ... but you can have that addiction of showing up to sit in that chair and listen to the guy or gal at the podium say "My name is X and I'm an X-aholic"??  THIS is healthy?

Christ - there's an X-anon for everything... even slobs: http://www.messies.com/ Get REAL! :silly:

Yep... you can be all you wanna be. The last time I checked, it was a free country!  That also means I don't have to "share" with you, baby - and this isn't "rap"!
