hello everyone... I was a Dallas Straight, Inc client (and a very unhappy one at that)from August of 1989 to about the first week of January 1991.  I am currently in therapy for a trauma related diagnosis and even though I've tried explaining and drawing pictures....my psychologist, I suspect, doesn't understand that Straight, Inc. really WAS as bad as I say it was.  I would really appreciate (and pay for) any and all photographs, videos, mpgs, anything that shows Straight, Inc in action...that I can show my psychologist.  Thank you so much. :???: [ This Message was edited by: Little_Cat on 2004-07-14 08:17 ]

I was in Dallas 08/88-05/89.

Check out Wes Fager's site, http://www.thestraights.com

you may be able to find some stuff there that will help you.

Thank you, I checked out the website and found a video about "SAFE" that was close enough.. ugh. Sorry you were in Dallas Straight, too... not a good place to be. :sad:

Hey there,

I was in Dallas for most of 1990 (I think).  Welcome to the board.  A suggestion would be to refer your psych to  Wes Fager's site and have a look for him/her self.  

Also, just an opinion, but if your counselor is having a hard time believing that this place was as bad as you say it is....I would re-evaluate the credibility of your counselor.  In truth, no matter how bad it really was or wasnt (we all know the truth of course), it obviously was bad enough for you...and your counselor should respect that.  Be careful not to end up with a whole new set of mind-fucking neurosis from your therapist!! Anyhow, good luck...and do come around more often.  We have precious few Dallas people posting here...if you would rather speak privately, feel free to e-mail me at greasepipe@yahoo.com.

Welcome, I was in the CA Sraight in 1990 & now practice as a licensed therapist in Calif.  I agree with the other post.....find a therapist that will validate you and who is very supportive.  We all have been victimzed ENOUGH! Were you only in Dallas or trasfered like so many others?

Carmel, I'm sending you an email but I wanted to thank you for your response.  It was really helpful.   I hope I didn't mislead anyone into thinking my psychologist doesn't believe me...it's just that I feel he can't possibly understand how bad it was because I can't adequately explain it.  Does that make sense?  He's a really fantastic psychologist and he's the first one I have ever trusted.  Anyway, thank you so much for your help. :smile:

Hello!  It's nice to meet you... I explained this poorly in my intro post.  It's not that my psychologist doesn't believe me or support me...he does... I just feel like he I'm not able to describe Straight well enough and that we'd benefit from him seeing Straight in action for himself.  Maybe it's this nagging feeling that I have that unless you were there... you CAN'T understand how bad it was.  I mean, don't you ever get a feeling of "it couldn't have been THAT bad, was it???" but I know it was.  I KNOW it was devestating.  I was never transferred, no, but I was there when a lot of the CA clients were moved down to Texas...Straight got even more bizarre after a few CA staff members got their hands on us.

I was in Dallas from the beginning of Feb. 1989 to the end of June. I guess I just missed you. Yes I know exactly, really, exactly the feeling you described. I have told people about straight and so far I have never really felt like it's anything describable to someone who wasn't in there. I think the best sometimes you can hope for is that they simply respect your explanation and take it seriously. It is like trying to describe living on another planet or something. Anyways, hope this helps.

Jane, I must have missed you by only a few weeks.  I'm sorry you had to be there.  Thanks for your reply.  I agree with you, there's no way to accurately describe Straight to anyone who's not been there.

Well people tend to not understand...and tend to think we are exaggerating...I have had the same problems now I just e mail them stuff off fagers site....if they read all that and still dont "get it" then they are retarted.
