Story was that everyone got up and just walked. And there was this misbehavior girl who walked too, and then as everyone was walking down the street, it occurred to her that she was conforming with everyone else. So she turned around and walked back to group and sat up in a blue chair and waited for staff to walk in. When staff finally did come through she started motivating. Since she was the only one who was working the program, they commenced her in a small ceremony with her parents. Thus she was the last person who commenced Dallas Straight.

Oh, the irony...

They were flown from the SARASOTA air port to clearwater st pete where more were picked up. The plane was provided by a father and the fuel was given by Mobil. The ISAC sight has the interview with the Wife of the Father that helped move the kids Illeagly out of state.

Moved not closed is correct.  Richard bradbury has the documents and videos.  I have seen them.  Straight chartered an airline flight and flew the kids to Tampa and Orlando as the State of Texas had revoked their license.

Bradbury ending up renuited three of the kids who had come from both Califorinia and Washington state originially.

While he and the people from Community Improvement were picket on December 06, 1991 at 5 pm the kids ran away from the Straight in St Pete.

Bradbury and the Community Improvement people set up safe houses for months and took the kids to see attorney Barry Cohen in Tampa.

IT was all over TV for months.  They really wanted Bradbury ass after that.  That's when Joy Margolis went on TV in January 1992 and slandered Bradbury and Bradbury sued them.

Much more to the story that's just a summary of events.

PS A big thanks to Janet Kennedy, who is Doctor of Pharmacy who was PLAYED a very important role in getting Straight's license revoked out in Texas in conjuction with the Community Improvement organization.

Hey Brad!  Yeah, I did decide to pop in....

Heard a story about Dallas Straight when they closed the Las Colinas building....

I heard this story in 1992 and may have some of it wrong...

It does occur to me as well something about them breaking a window to all walk out.  Maybe was a riot type situation, I don't know.  There is an ex-staffer who was there at the time named Wes Kitchens.  Don't know where he is now, but he knows the story well.

I was working at a rehab in Carrolton called FirStep.  Wes was a staffer there and so was Heath Duncan.  The girl that was the last one to commence came to FirStep one day and assisted in one of my girls' raps that I was doing.  That's how I found out about it all.[ This Message was edited by: taureana on 2004-07-08 09:45 ]"

If these places truly are still in existence, Michael Moore needs to learn about "Embassador" Mel Sembler and his child abuse legacy. I hope to have the means some day to personally be involved in exposing these places to major media. Why the hell haven't these places been completely shut down? What are these parents not getting? How gullible can they be? or maybe they truly don't give a damn and have money to throw away, and don't really care what kind of horrors these kids have to deal with.

The best thing that ever happened to me in "straight" was getting the Chicken Pox. It itched and I puked every day and it was physically miserable, but... Aaahh... I got to be out of "group" for a whole ten days. We played Dungeons and Dragons (me and the others quarrantined to a house with pox).

Tracy Anderson... Scott Bowers (I think)... and some others I don't remember.

I remember when Heather H...and then other girls broke out with chicken pox and they didnt even let them stay home they backed the chicken pox girls to back of group like 20 feet away and they had their own row... I think they still had to sit up as well..

Yes, I was surprised we got away with playing D&D. There was one kid who was into it, he was the most "senior" prisoner, so we all played. If I remember correctly, though, we had to stop a couple days before I left there because someone HAD raised a "concern" that there was something evil about this board/imagination game.

Ughhhh....

Just found this post. I was "off the planet" during the second week of July this year. Sorry.

No, I wasn't there. I split in October of `82. That was near the begining of the HRS investigation.

I heard bits and pieces about Dallas closing.  I DO know that all the kids whose parents could afford to do so were shipped off to Atlanta and Orlando a'la L.A. Program style.  The two I knew of specifically, graduated from each program respectively.  A far as I know they commenced all of the current fifth phasers, one was named Rachel Barnes who had been on 1st since the day I came in, she apparently started working not too long after I ran and had made 5th almost immediately before the shut down.  One girl I still talk to who was actually there said that yes, many of the kids just walked out the front door (no broken window).  If I recall there were no windows anywhere in that building except for the ones around the front door.  It would be my guess the ones walking were out-of-towners.  Local kids most likely just stayed home.

I remember shady details of one of my friends who was on staff, going to the building and making off with alot of office equipment and so forth...apparently everything was locked up and shut down....including all our records and so forth. Dont know if they broke in, I think they were trying to liquidate whatever was in that building before it fell into the wrong (right) hands.

Did Rachel Barnes have long curly hair, kinda auburn color?  The name sounds so familiar.

When I worked at FirStep in Carrolton, there were a lot of our records there.  I searched for mine, but couldn't find anything.  There were micro-casette tapes from intakes, etc.  The one that I remember the most was Jen Loar's.  I didn't have a micro-cassette player, otherwise I probably would have swiped it.  At the time I was only 20, had only been out of Straight for 2 years and had no idea of the magnitude of what was before me.  I don't think I really gave a damn then either.
