Very well put, Brian. I agree w/ your assessment 100%.
Cold and cynical as it may seem to some, I don't actually care all that much about saving the individual people currently involved in these cults or about wiping the cults themselves from the face of the Earth. Not that I approve, mind you. But I just accept that there is evil in the world, always has been and will be. If I were to dedicate myself to rescuing individuals, there are quite a number of situations that would have to take priority. The little kid who's being repeatedly raped or pimped out by relatives, for example, or unjustly convicted people sentenced to an 80% chance of contracting a deadly disease under incarceration.
There are two reasons why the Troubled Parent industry is such a high priority for me.
First, because I understand it; having lived in the culture for most of my childhood. I hope that anyone who's been through a program would at least consider whether or not they have an obligation to help raise a proper hew and cry.
Second, because I've realized in recent years that there's no escaping their influence. Not for me, not for my kids or my grandkids or anyone else. These crazy bastards actually carry a whole lot of sway in matters of public policy. As dangerous as they are to kids on a personal level behind their closed doors, how much more dangerous are they w/ the power of the legislature behind them? In the UK, they're developing and testing a "vaccine" to prevent the enjoyment of certain unpatentable drugs. And they're doing it w/ funding from NIDA; the original funding source for The Seed and Straight and, quite likely, CEDU. Same idiots have been crop dusting Columbia and Bolivia w/ fucking Agent Orange for YEARS! What will they think of next, federally mandatated mental health screening?
I think it's absolutely vital to the survival of the Republic that we focus some attention on these dangerous lunatics before they can do a whole lot more harm.
Distrust all in whom the impulse to punish is powerful.
