Being a Coordinator, BIG FUCKING DEAL.
« on: May 06, 2004, 07:49:00 AM »
They gave me Coordinator once , didn't like it then requested my old position back. Elan staff always praised their Coord.

The staff always pointed them out to the rest of the house and said, "These are the people that are gonna make it on the outside"

Yea ok, So Elan where are your Coord. now?

I have allocated some of these Coord. They are workers or law breakers in the game of life.

You said I had no future? I am CEO-President of my own gig, which I turned into a pretty good money making enterprise.

So Elan who is the loser now? Judging by the salaries that the Elan personal make each year, I would have to say that " You are the workers of the game of life"

Beautiful day out, think I'll take the day off.

Congratulations! You seem to be pretty successful.

I have a different view on being a Coordinator; guess this was the position from which I've learned the most. I wasn't one of the best coordinators, never even went through the position of "Full Coordinator", but in a way it's taught me a lesson that's helped in the "game of life".

I agree with you that the staff used to make of the position a greater deal than it really was. Going through Full Coordinator and Re-entry does not guarantee the sucess outside, it just shows the person's ability to do well in context. The same goes for the diploma. I'm proud of this Diploma because it's something that I've actually finished in my life. However, I know many people that didn't graduate and succeeded and people that graduated that unfortunatelly didn't make it in life.

I guess the Elan dichotomy does not mean much in the real world.

   Peace!

I remember a few splits... In my time, there was this kid Eric Boyd, he split as a dept head of the SC when taking out the trash. He got caught by the cops and they sent him back. Didn't Tiffany from 8 manage to escape by diving in the lake? I remember she had a 3 house ring for that after the cops sent her back. I know of people that split on home visits, there was this kid from 7, Ted, and I'm not too sure but I believe Maren McCoy from 8 did the same, didn't she?

I split my third day, on the way to the nurses office to get my blood work done. It was a Sat. Am before wake up, they had this tiny Coor. Josh take me down. on the way back, there was no one around. I figured even if this little shit caught me what was he gonna do? Bite my ankles? They told me he was a Coor. and to respect him and shit. Third day there, I had no idea whay a Coor. was. So I was 5000G. After I got caught in the woods of Maine ( Im a city kid, no way was I surviving in those woods, I just ran in circles for 12 hours like a idiot) they had a GM me. I remember thinking " Thess freaks, what the hell are they telling me to take a look at? They don't even know me, why are they so mad, why is this Josh kid going off, and what the Fu*k am I supposed to be taking a look at. All these little shits yelling and spitting on me. I almost started swinging, but it was overwelming, to many of them. They tried to make me GI, but there was no way I was scrubbing floors. And what was this guilt thing? They trew me back in the corner. For the next two weeks I sat there, watched and listened. I leared the "game". I figured out what I was looking at. "Concept". The best way to deal wit it was to become a Coor.

So there is my split story. Time for sleep. LAter

Cool story, thanks yo. Based on your previous stories, I never pictured you getting a GM. How did you manage to earn back your trust? It mustn't have been easy.

Now that you brought it up, that "elanifyed" vocab became a nightmare (but funny at the same time) after leaving Elan, because since I wasn't quite fluent in English before Elan, I had a hard time distingüishing between the elan technical terms and the expressions of English.

Anyways, they'd always give 1 minute VR's at my house, like:
"Fine, get on top of it! Make sure you don't do this kind of stuff, this kind of stuff takes away, just take a look at it"!

Not to mention the half-minute blasts. There were Coordinators that'd actually take their time to give the person some insight in their VR's and talking to's, but most of the time, there was too much pressure into getting everything done as fast as possible.

Quite frankly, I think Elan emphasized the functional procedures, instead of providing the kids with the emotional support that they deserved. Sometimes all it took was just to give the kid some attention, really. The corner and GM's were the best way of getting "all eyes on me", you know what I mean?
The high strength were always so busy with the functional aspects of their positions that they'd barely have time to "relate" to the new resident who's feeling homesick and confused or the shotdown who's having a hard time and really needed a friend.

When I actually got to a High Strength position, I guess I found an escape in just "functioning my feelings away". Functioning would keep me from thinking. It's my thinking that'd get me in trouble most of the times because Elan doesn't want you to think, they want you to do as you're told. Remember the philosophies: "Blind faith", "Act as if", "Fake it til you make it"... I mean, think about it.

   Peace!

They wanted me to think like them.  I remember my last encounter group when I said, basically, fuck Elan's philosophy on medications.  Within a few weeks of getting out of there, I got a script for Ritalin and didn't feel bad about it at all.

Even when I was a leader in Elan, I always thought like myself.  My last six months there, demoted from coordinator, I lost most of my "Blind Faith" in Elan.  Bunch of fucking kids telling me not to take meds when I left.  Yeah, OK Doctor, whatever you say.

I don't take them today, but I sure as hell need 'em.  Now I gotta go back to work, cause typing this stupid message is wasting my time and I'd like to leave this job on good terms so I can go to my BETTER one with a sweet raise.

Those unhelpful dealing crews sucked. i used to hate those coordinators. two of 'em got exposed as total phonies. but if you think about it, between "get on top of it," "everything blows" and the like, the people who created concept must have been very sexually frustrated.

Marina, Ted was a coor tr. of the service crew.  I was one of his new residents when he went on a home visit and never come back.  He was a really cool guy.  I remember being really happy that he was my coordinator because he was all laid back and hippy like.

You're right, he was Service Crew too. Not sure why I remember him as Communications, guess he might have gone through CM before he got SC. Oh well. I remember people really liked him a lot. I never got close to him, he was very quiet and reserved. He was very talented, I believe he got "Production of the Week"like 7 times in a row. Does anyone know about how he managed to split? All I remember is it was on a home visit.

There was 2 females and 2 males that spilt from 8 only to take up residence in a vacant trailer a few hundred yards away from the elan campus.

They stole alcohol and food and went on a 8 day sex/drinking binge only to be caught by a returning trailer owner.

The owner called state police and they were picked up hours later wandering the woods.

This trailer was litery only a 5 minute walk from the lake. It was a 16 ft stainless steal in color capsule shaped trailer.

A student from my house split elan only to take up residence in the vacant old elan 7 dorms. He managed to elude elan and all of its staff for 3-4 days before being caught.

He shoplifted and broke into Citgo gas station to stock up on food and cigarettes. I also think they sold alcohol there becuase liqour was also found in the old 7 dorms.

There were also other incidents where students had split and took up residence in the cabins near the lake and also went on party binges.

I guess it is a natural accusation for everyone at elan, that wnehe a student splits he/ or she is headed back to there home state.
