About the beating:
The incident in question happened inside Stockton's N.A. Chaderjian Youth Correctional Facility. Internal affairs investigators say surveillance cameras caught two correctional officers beating two teenage wards on Jan. 20.
Investigators write in the report that Correctional Officer Delwin "Brown punched a CYA ward approximately 28 times, approximately 13 times with his right hand and approximately 15 times with his left hand."
They also say that while the ward lie face down on the ground, the videotape shows Correctional Officer "Marcel Berry, after handcuffing another CYA ward ... kick (the ward) in the facial area. ... The ward was lying face down on the floor, handcuffed, not resisting and no longer a threat."
Furthermore, the report suggests four other officers who witnessed the incident tried to cover it up by accusing the teenagers of assaulting the officers.
Investigators wrote: "The reports submitted...(by the officers) were misleading, factually false and contradicted by witness statements."
Note: Unfortunately kids who are locked up in for-profit teen programs don't have the advantage of video cameras documenting their abuse. All they have are their memories. Memories often don't hold up in court. What's so appaling is that the Attorney General is refusing to prosecute even with this hard evidence.
Life may have no meaning. Or even worse, it may have a meaning of which I disapprove.
