Do I want to go there?  Hell No!!!  All I'm saying is we are going somewhere, and it's not good.

Can anybody out there see the forest through the trees?  We're being set up for the biggest fall since Rome.  Open your eyes people. We have sold our soul to the devil.  The devil being the fat and protected central bankers, and the  cost being our freedom. They tricked us into thinking that freedom is about Suvs and cheap goods. HA!!

Now they have you thinking that America's big issue is about Minorities.   Give me a break.  It is only another way to trick you into giving up more of your freedoms.  And, Patriot, I think you will fall for it hook, line, and sinker.

There is a lot about the American culture that I wish was different.  I've got a friend that raised her kids in Europe.  Politics ASIDE.....it seems that they're much more laid back and less stressed than mine were at comparative ages.  I know this can be attributed to a lot of things, but I think the slower pace of the Italians and the reverence for some of the finer things in life (art, culture, time for family/friends) has a lot to do with it.  Not to mention they're multi-lingual.  My husband speaks 4 languages...his great-grandparents came from Sicily and passed down the language.  I love that.  I speak English.  Feels lazy when most of the rest of the world is at least bi-lingual.

I live in Florida, I love the cultural diversity.  You can see by the screen name I picked.  I could have just left it Key West, but part of what makes Key West such an amazing place IS the blending of cultures.

I'm also not saying non-Americans can't criticize America.  I'm saying if you're going to come here illegally, don't bitch about how poorly you're treated by America and talk about how the whole place just fucking sucks and look at the stupid arrogant Americans etc.

Contrarian...I have no doubt that America will someday fall.  Look at history...someone's on top, the 'leader' of the world, or at least the most powerful......then they're not.  King of the Hill gets knocked off and there's a new King.  It'll go on that way til the end of time.  Right now we happen to be the most powerful (I do NOT mean that arrogantly, right now we are).  Not all of what we as a country do is good, but it's not all bad either.

I felt like if anyone said ANYthing good about America, then we were told we're just fools and arrogant.  Not true.

Preacher man don't tell me heaven is under the earth; you don't know what life is worth;.......If you know what life is worth, you will look for your's on earth.

Here's a list of things I miss about America:

Bagel and cream cheese, Nirvana, a fair salary, student organizations, the art museums, college volleyball, my American friends, a few clubs (although I'm not into the club scene anymore), the Broadway shows, theatre, Christopher Durang,  watching the Hollywood movies first, good money, having boys pay for my drinks and then walking out on them, the highways, pop tarts, girls night out, the skaters, an international atmosphere, Dave Mathews Band, good make up, little glittery girly stuff, TJ Max, Americans gossip a lot less than Brazilians, coffee and books at Borders, the computer labs at the universities, making fun of the southern and the NY accents although they used to make fun of mine too, Superbowl Sundays at Hooters (and Yes, girls go to Hooters too), American punk rock, Georgetown and Adams Morgan, the African Americans (they are just really funny and sincere), the metro system, Abercrombie & Fitch, Eugene O'Neil, Tenessee Williams, the NBA, the Licoln Center, cherry blossoms, the fall of Maine, amusement parks like Bursh Gardens, the Disney complex and Six Flags, Bath and Body Works and the Body Shop, the Doors, music festivals, the Express, 2 MTVs, the mountains and canyons of the Mid-West, good radio stations, the Rainbow Gathering, "The Grapes of Wrath", good public libraries, an excellent costumer service, finantial aid for college, after-parties, no teens at the bars (I used to hate that, now I love it), having an ass when most American girls don't, making fun of American players who think that we fall for them, Long Island Ice Tea, breakfast at the "Dinners" after a long night, TGI Fridays, having a fat-free version of almost everything in the supermaket, Fresh & Fields, being in a country where the majority of the people belongs to the middle class, less sexism than in Brazil, garage sales, ... and the list goes on and on.

"having boys pay for my drinks and then walking out on them"

Mean!  Hope you didn't do that too often!

Elan is most definitely not American... perhaps 1950s American.  It's sexist (girls degraded more than boys), racist (homeboys told to keep their "image" in check but hippies ignored), homophobic, anti-First Amendment in every way (self-explanatory) and depressing!

I have recently gained a lot of empathy for illegal immigrants.  I commute to New York City on the train every day and many mornings I see immigrants (most probably illegal) standing on street corners waiting for possible day labor.  I used to get very angry at some of them for never learning to speak English and for twice stealing my stuff at the laundromat, before we moved and got a washer/dryer.  But recently, I've learned of the conditions and hopelessness they faced in Mexico and other countries and I feel bad for a lot of them.  It's no wonder they wanted to get out.  Ten people in a one-bedroom apartment is better than what they had in the old country.  However, you should still obey the law and try to get legal before you hop the border.  It's a delicate balance.

That being said, our national identity is eroding and that is disappointing -- because identity is what defines every great country.  It is absurd to declare the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional because of the word "God."  A world without a spiritual entity watching over us is no world I want to live in.  It also is absurd to think the national language is anything other than English.  If I moved to Italy, I certainly would not expect everyone around me to speak English for my benefit.  In fact, I wouldn't expect them to speak anything other than Italian -- which I would learn.  The same goes for Mexico, Spain, Russia or any other country.  I would learn their language.

However, I also feel somewhat strange only speaking one language fluently (I know a smattering of French and I can curse you out in Chinese), so I'm trying to find a way to learn Spanish.

Hey Pete! Of course I always took advantage of those silly boys! The same way they'd take advantage of me If I had all those drinks and didn't walk out on them. They just want to get laid, this is what they do. If I happened to mention I'm Brazilian, oh boy, they'd think they could easily take me home. This is no way of treating a lady, so I don't feel guilty for drinking for free and then walking out.

Anyways, I was on my way back from the gym and I though of other items I didn't include on my list of things I miss about America:

Madonna, being able to dye my hair blue and no one would notice me (of course, this applies for the urban areas), graffitti, the National parks, high-tech everything, cosmetics, Beasty Boys, Rage Against the Machine,  last minute plane ticket bargains, no fence in front of the houses, white x-mas, those silly x-mas songs (they're annoying but unforgettable), jelly beans, cheese pretzels, Jack Daniels, the Grateful Dead, the blues of New Orleans, celebrating el cinco de mayo and el día de los muertos out of Mexico, Carnaval out of Brazil, St. Patrick's Day out of Ireland and Kwanza out of Africa, Malcom X, baggy jeans, Cherokee, NOFX, erasable pens, non-smoking policies that prevent us from second-hand smoking, caller ID, America believe it or not, is one of the most gay friendly countries in the world, only in America it's to an extent considered normal to see a blond chick with an African American, only in America you can basically sue anyone for the pettiest things and still get money from them, 4rth of july barbecues rock, Tom Hanks, "Hair", trick-a-treating in halloween, spring break, mardi gras, you can buy a water bong at regular shops, the Eagles, the best horror films, Greewich Village, Forrest Gump, harley davidsons, being able to say: "I don't give a damn" or "Whatever"when you're frustrated, speaking Portuguese with my friends and no one else would have a clue of what I was saying, "sex on the beach", screw drivers, tempeh sandwiches at Avogadro's number (that's in Colorado), Brophy's, Hendrix, The Mamas and the Papas, Friends, the Simpsons, ... OK, enough!!!

Peace!
