Many of the things that were in Patriot's original post are very true and your love for your nation is beyiond beautiful. I admire that.

  However, Whitney has brought up a very good point. Yes, Patriot, everyone in your country is entitled to have an opinion, but I must admitt that I personally feel offended by something you've mentioned in one of your messages:

    "Hey....you are a example of why I support closing our boarders and restricting entry....".

   Of course this was addressed to Whintney, who is in fact, an American. But I feel it, since I happened to live in America for 5 years of my life and I struggled with people with the same mentality. The US is an international country and it's a good thing, believe me. The immigrants, both legal and ilegal are usually hard workers and they've been contributing a lot to the growth of your country. I know plenty of immigrants that happen to know more about the US than any average American. And yes, these people have every right to criticize the things that go wrong in your country just like any other American. We're no different.

   Do you know what's so great about New York City besides the statue of liberty and Broadway? The variety of people, ethnic groups and culture that gives the city a special touch.

  Do you know what makes me sad? Is that there are people that happen to think that Americans are superior than others. This is where I start to disagree, because we are all human beings and we shouldn't be treated differently just because we are in your country. I'm not even getting to the legal issue, cause although there are "bad elements", most ilegal immigrants that I happened to meet are wonderful people and they are willing to work hard, just as long as they stay in America.

   OK, since I'm entitled to have an opinion, this is mine. Hope you keep an open mind and understand my point.

Can't agree there.  If you're here illegally, you're NOT an American so you don't have the right to criticize 'just like any other American'.  If you're here illegally and you don't like the country, tough shit, get the fuck out or get legal.  I'm not one to make statements like that but that pisses me off.  Someone here ILLEGALLY has the right to bitch and moan about what they don't like here?????  It's apparently a damn sight better than where they came from or they'd be there.


I don't think Americans are superior to anyone else.  I happen to like the country I live in.  I don't think it's perfect.  There is a hell of a lot that I would like to change, but just because I feel that way, doesn't mean I don't see and admire the good qualities we have.

I dont think americans even know what it is to be an american....Foreighners know more about us than the average American does....
Some things said about us are true... America a place where we promote peace and equality no communism yet we take away rights, we fight with other countries then back out like pussies. We critisize out of towners, and people from other countries, we say we offer freedom, yet condone the cubans and haitians... Bush wants to ban the right to freedom on gays. etc etc...
America Shamerica..I read through the posts...maybe I am being very synical right now...
So much information...my mind seems boggled..and its responces I come up with r so lame..
Something about wishing I had a Baffalo...ahah
Something about Elan being for selfish kids bla blha...
I want a buffALo so I can Cook it...
and eat it...
If I were in Elan again...I would start a fire.

Marina prob knows more about America than we do. I am unsure if I know what it is to be an American, or if I am even proud to say I am an american...
Sometimes I think it is shameful and embarrasing to be an American..

I included the illegal immigrants because they happen to be in big number and they too, believe it or not, have contributed to the growth of America. I'm sure most of you are descendents from immigrants too, have you asked yourself whether they were legal or not when they've first set foot in America? Most of them weren't. The problem with "getting legal"is that it ain't easy at all. When I lived in the US with a student visa, I couldn't manage to get a social security number or even get a worker's permitt in order to at least work off-campus. Anyways, I think everyone has the right to express their opinions, Americans or not, as long as they're humans. It's a good thing you don't see Americans as superior, I wish all Americans thought like you, that way, there wouldn't be prejudice in America.

Patriot, to be honest with you, we'd never be able to have this discussion, because I think your relatives, along with the others, have died in vain. No offense to you. I'm a pacifist, I believe there are other forms of resolving problems other than using violence. If one has a brain, there's no need for using their muscles (or weapons) to conquer their space in the planet. You see, you've served, you take pride in what you do, so we have completely different visions and most likely, we'll never gonna come to an understanding other than respecting that we have different opinions. Let's just leave it at that.
