You think that joke's funny because...???

Fuck cocaine!!! That comment was extremmely unecessary, especially considering the depth of the situation in which most of us got sent to Elan to begin with. If you do that shit, fine. Good for you, keep going on that road, I could care less. I'm not gonna run my mouth with some fake moralism. If it makes you happy, then who am I to discuss its side effects? I'm pretty sure you can figure it out for yourself. All I'm asking is please, find a rather appropriate forum to talk about cocaine, OK? Some people have actually moved on from it and they don't want to read that shit. More repect, please.

  Peace!

Marina, whoever the guy who wrote this was just copying a routine from the "Chappelle Show" on Comedy Central.  It's a damn funny routine if you see it in context.  Whoever the anonymous person who wrote this is funny.  As someone who has struggled with addiction, I am not offended at all.  Black Gay Jew was talking about this stuff earlier on here.

Don't worry about this guy.

Oh BTW, Mr. Anonymous, do the R. Kelly routine next.  Or how about Prince trying to play basketball?  LMAO.

"I guess one time I dug my feet into his couch... I'M RICK JAMES BITCH!"  LOL

We all need evil humor on this board.

Hey Pete, thanks for enlighting me, I wasn't familiar with the show. To be quite honest with you, I don't find those American talk-shows particularly funny. Then again, this is just me, I have a rather anti-commencial cultural taste and I don't get easily amazed. I respect the fact that some people might find the shit funny, I mean, If this type of "evil humour" turns you on, who am I to discuss it? Some people got to have a good laugh reading Nazi's comments and I didn't. People are different, what can I say? It doesn't mean I'm any better, it's culture, we are different.

Pete, I've been reading some of your posts and I find them very well written and you made pretty good points. No wonder you're a journalist. Anyways, I just want you to keep it in perspective the fact that we live in different worlds and there's a huge cultural barrier standing in between us. I was missunderstood in Elan many times because of that and I don't want you to get the wrong idea. I just don't find this stereotypical "American Humour"funny that's all.

Peace!

Hi Marina,

I hear you and thank you for the generous compliments.  One thing my therapist is trying to drill in my head is that most jokes (American, I'm sure) are at the expense of others.  But I often find people (especially my wife) offended by things I say, so maybe I'm the insensitive one.  I know I have a rather outlandish and probably immature sense of humor and have never meant it to be disrespectful, but often it comes across that way.  Does the media in America fuel it?  Probably.  Hopefully, I will turn it into a great standup comedy act one day.

I understand we live in different cultures and sometimes it's hard to understand one another.  From my perspective, it is all too telling when I see British people online calling us "Yankee pig fuckers" and the like.  I am not a Bush backer (I think he's incredibly dangerous) but I can understand how we are stereotyped overseas and in other countries.

Brazil sounds like a beautiful place, by the way.  When I was in college, I worked alongside a number of Brazilian immigrants and was always struck by their generosity and kindness.

I greatly respect the peace and tolerance you bring to this board.  I'm sorry you won't be able to make it to Philly.

Take care,
Pete

I just don't find this stereotypical "American Humour"funny that's all.

seeing as a stereotype is an OVER SIMPLIFIED OPPINION, affective attitude or UNCRITICAL judgement (as of a person, a race, an issue or event); why are you stereotyping anyone??? or our country?????????
your a cool chik marina but dont stereotype.

I see your point, Syn, but it's kind of hard not to. I consider myself to be a very critical person and I do my best not to generalize. I used the words "the stereotypical American humour" specifically because they are not all the same. However, we can't ingore that there are some characteristics that are typically American. These characteristics (both positive and negative) are a part of the American culture. I love certain things about the American culture, especially the music, but I dislike others. Do you see what I'm saying?

Maybe I don't know all about the American humour, but do you? You certainly know a lot more about it than I do, cause you were born and raised in the States, this is your culture, not mine. Yet I may say that I know a lot more about it than a Brazilian dude who's lived in Brazil for all his/her life, you know what I mean? And of course, you have more back up information to base your judgement than the Brazilian dude, but he/she is still entitled to have an opinion about Americans overall. Where does this information come from? The media, the American tourists that come to Brazil every summer (believe me, there are plenty), the American impact on our economy, the international relations, the influence in the music, the movies, etc.

Of course this is general, as it's looked from one specific perspective. But you ask a Brazilian, an Italian, a Japanese or whoever else, their view on the American culture will be pretty similar to one another. Are they generalizing? Yes. Are they wrong? No. This is how America is percieved from an international stand point.

Hey Pete, I don't think you're insensitive by the way. If you think it's funny, you have all the right to laugh. I must admitt I tend to be more sensitive than most people, but it's ok. Yeah, I wish I could make it to Philly but I gotta keep my priorities in perspective. I'm finishing college and this is not the right time for me. Anyways, it's a pitty, I'd love to meet you all and get to have these discussions in person sitting in a bar or something. It doesn't mean it won't happen, only not this time.

  Peace!

Hey, I wouldn't go there If I were you, your lunatic president has been killing lots of innocent people over the past few years. I'm not blaming the citizens, that'd be bullshit, but don't talk about helping people cause the war on Iraq wouldn't have happened If it wasn't for the oil. Anyways, as far as Brazil, what a great work your government has been doing in the Amazon, hu? If exploiting our natural resources and trying to take the Amazon forest away from us is all the help your government can give us, then who needs this kind of help?

OK, so your government is making huge mistakes. That doesn't mean we all hate America, your music and the movie industry is very much appreciated here in Brazil. Almost every child's dream is to go to Disney World. Guess what music they play in clubs here in Brazil? American hip-hop! Well, I particularly preffer the American classic rock. My point is, it's a love-hate relationship and whoever posted the last message is totally right, we don't have to like EVERYTHING about America, let's leave it at that.

Peace!

That has to be one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time, the Chappel show's reinactment of Eddie Murphy's brother and Rick James feud circa the 70s.

what is especially funny about it is the retelling by Murphy and James as they would then act it out, docudrama style.

I have watched it twice already and will watch it again every chance I get.  What a fucking riot!!!

True my government is not perfect but corruption in goverment extends far beyond the borders of the united States. South America for instance, some of the most corrupt goverments in the world exist there. Besides without the industry and technology the United States exports many countrys would be far below a third world status. You may dislike us, but I have worked south of the border and the crime is terrible, local goverments and police are all corrupt there. So I guess we are not all that bad. Look at 9/11 other countries would do the same to protect themselves if they had the means.
