What Happened to The Media Blitz?
« on: February 02, 2004, 11:14:00 PM »
Has 20/20 abandoned their plans to do a story on the teen help industry?  What about the Sharon Osbourne Show, Oprah Winfrey, and others mentioned over the past few months? Seems like the media has lost complete interest in the controversy surrounding this industry and that the window of opportunity has come and gone.  Sure hope that is not the case, but realistically, it looks like this issue is attacting little to no interest by the media.  Not even the Straight protest made the news which is a real travesty.

I guess the real world sees the small minority of teen help clients that are complaining for who they really are.

You wish.

I had no connection to the teen "help" industry or its victims---until I found out about it.  I'm a pretty decent representative of the "real world" that way.

Everybody I've told about it in the "real world" is outraged at the corruption and abuse that is rampant throughout the industry.

But if it makes you feel better to think the rest of us in society would condone what you do, then you just go ahead and stay in that little dream world of yours---while you can.

There may be outrage but the public has a short attention span and when tabloid news shows like Inside Edition are the only ones carrying the story, well, it just doesn't lend much credibility to the issues at hand. Case in Point: The Ryan F. story.  What stands out in my mind is the well-to-do lifestyle of his divorced parents which most of MIDDLE AMERICA would view as part of the problem (e.g. raising spoiled, manipulative, no-gratitude-attitude kids).

I also think that there is political pressure not to expose these schools for what they really are.  The central government is counting on wealthy families to drain their savings account and go into debt to keep the pathetic economic engine of this country going.

Think about it.  These schools cost $3,000 - $6,000 per month per child plus expenses.  All this money is put back into the system through wages, primarily, which in turn is taxed agian.

This is a highly profitable business, and right now, our country is desparate.  Unless parents start sending their kids off to China or India to less expensive schools,I'm pretty sure these schools will be protected.
