In case anyone's reading this who doesn't know the background firsthand, this anon poster pretty much admits he's on staff at Elan. Same one who claims all the kids in his care are violent sociopaths. I was never in Elan, but I can tell you that the following quoted post sounds just
exactly like a confrontation in group at Straight. I'm not exagerating, hell this is really sort of a mild sample.
I've seen staff at Straight stand a girl up and make her confess responsibility for
making them (staff, parents) force her to have an abortion. "I did the necessary things to make you have to do it." I've seen them stand a guy up in group and confront him in the same harsh terms and the most brutal tones for being a selfish, attention seeking piece of shit after they brought him back from the hospital after he slashed both his wrists
the right way.
To my mind, this is a crucial part of the story that needs to be told.
This is what Elan, Straight, Miller Newton, WWASP and some other self appointed treatment gurus call therapy! "What's wrong with a little tough discipline?", they ask. Or "Well, the kid didn't apreciate what they had at home, so now they have nothing. Boo hoo!" in response to questions about humiliating and often life threatening conditions and events.
There's a whole lot more to be told. It takes a thousand voices, or so they say. Now put that together with the upstanding pillars of the community who continue to support and protect these sadistic SOBs by court mandated placements, direct funding, supportive legislation like the Marchman Act and you may begine to have trouble sleeping at night as I do.
