Just cruising around and ran across the following from the KHK website. Correct me if I am wrong but KHK is having a fundraiser that involves a COCKTAIL HOUR???? We can talk about child abuse in these type of treatment centers over a drink or two..... Pretty hypocrital if you ask me...

Fundraising Efforts

Annually KHK needs to raise over $350,000 through grant writing, public support and fund raising efforts in some manner. The Bowl-a-thon is the primary fundraiser through which parents can help raise money. The other events are the primary responsibility of the Kids Helping Kids Board or other social groups. We will need volunteers to run all of the events. The Development Director will keep the parent group informed at all times as to which event is taking place and how you can help. Other events are The Magic of Kids, and the KHK Golf Outing.

The Magic of Kids

Friday, October 24, 2003 at the Kenwood Country Club, Cincinnati, Ohio

6:30 P.M. Cocktails / 8:00 P.M. Dinner

$125 per person Patron Level / $250 per person Gold Patron Level. Your donation in excess of the $70 meal cost per person is deductible for charitable contribution purposes

Or, maybe they are nothing like KIDS or Straight. Maybe they don't think everyone who drinks has a problem with it. You might be surprised how open minded they are.

I actually have been in KIDS, Straight and KHK. They are not the same. KIDS was my worst nightmare. I do understand though why people would think they are all the same.

Wow!  And I thought I had it bad just going through KHK and then working at KIDS.  Damn.

For me, KIDS was by far the worse of the two (can't speak about Straight).  If I had just gone through KHK and never met Newton, I would not have been nearly as fucked-up as I was.  KHK actually helped me with being transgendered, while Newton did everything he could to screw with my head.

I would never share my story just to make you a believer. I don't even know who you are. Besides, as soon as I told it a whole lot of people would know who I was and I want to remain anonymous. If you want to leave your email I will talk to you if I know you.

Smart.  I don't blame you one iota.
Let me ask this to the anonymous doubting thomas...

Why would anyome make shit up like that, ESPECIALLY hidden behind a veil of anonymity?  It's not like being a client in multiple abusive programs like kids or straight garners any prestige...  If anything it invokes some manner of sympathy and lots of questions about the programs we haven't experienced.

Besides, KHK sprang from Straight in affiliation with Newton. I know LOTS of folk landed up in two or more locations, before or after a name change or who's lovably gullible parents actually thought they were smart when they transfered the kid from one location to another, not even knowing it used to operate under the same old corporate entity or was a spin-off. Ah, a kinder, gentler Seed/Straight/LIFE/Kids/KHK/AARC, etc.

He, who has nothing, and who himself belongs to another, must be defended by him, whose property he is, and needs no arms. But he, who thinks he is his own master, and has what he can call his own, ought to have arms to defend himself, and what he possesses; else he lives precariously, and at discretion.

I will not look at KHK any differently than I do any other Straight/KIDS program. I was in KIDS. It was abusive and downright wrong. Miller Newton is the devil. If he had anything to do with KHK than I know there is nothing good with KHK.

Thanks Ginger!!

Miller was not a part of KHK. Not trying to start a brawl or say anything besides what I just said. I share the feelings towards Miller. Very sick man.

What I was told in 1984 was that KHK and Straight Cincinnati were separated precisely because of Newton; that the people who began KHK wanted to disaffiliate from Straight and Newton.  I was told that by people at KHK who warned me about going to work for him (I was a trainee at KHK when my folks moved to northern NJ, and I wound up working for Newton when I moved, too).  I don't know if that was the true story, but there was a real separation at the time, and Newton was persona non grata around KHK.

I won't say that KHK is great, or that no one was abused there.  But in the time I was there ('83 to '84) I never saw anything worse than what I saw in a public high school, while in KIDS there was true child abuse going on, much of it life-threatening.  At that time they were very different places.
