That’s true but punitive tactics like the ones common to TC’s are relatively rare in Public Schools.
Like for instance when was the last time you heard of “Haircuts” in a middle school?

Danny your dumb as hell the PUBLIC school system offers special education for Autistic children and children with other disabilities. Some ppl have to rely on the PUBLIC system because they are not rich. Danny no offense but other than mental abusing children, what other experience do you have? The fucken PUBLIC school system tries to place disabilied children in with the children without disabilities all the time to cut costs, it is a sad reality. Oh that's right compassion for childrens needs seriously lack in you.

Felice has done a lot of work geared for helping children and adults...and she knows what the hell she is talking about here. I can say one thing she researches everything....hell she even gave me some good advice regarding my disabilied son. So stop speaking to her like she is ignorant because Danny your the one looking ignorant as ever. The kids out there need more then our systems will give them, and it all boils down to money. They do the bare minium for our youth and it is beginning to show fully.


And for your little comment about me kissing Felices ass...no I am not...friends fight...but real friends forgive each other...that is the true meaning of friendship to care enough to work past a conflict. Friends do not always agree but they work past the bad shit. We hurt each other but are moving on and it is our business. I am glad we both cared enough to come back and privately work it out. That shows friendship. Your just pissed strong bonds are being made all around you, but your the one who shits repeatedly on ppl.  PPl tried with you and forgave you several times. Danny, are you saying that there is no such thing as special ed for autistics, dyslexics, etc. in the public school system? Are you nuts? Go look in the phone book, in the sublistings for your local school system. What do you think "special ed" means? Extra special perks for the kids who behave themselves and get good grades? "Special ed" is short for specialized education.

Oh, I just remembered. You think these kids should be housed off somewhere where nobody has to see or deal with them. Special schools for special kids, where special abuse can go on unnoticed by folk with more sane perspectives.

The fact is, outside of the enormously wealthy, most parents cannot afford special ed services for their kid unless their needs are quite minimal. Most special ed kids are in the public school system for that very reason.

Yes they were doing both. I would say though the literal haircut was a fear based tool, since long hair and large afros were a status symbol back in the early 70's. Folks were really into images/persona's then. I believe this is why signs,  verbal haircuts, verbal announcements and so on were introduced. To break through this image we had built that was so self destructive. Women while I was at Daytop, Marathon, Elan and The Third Nail did not get literal haircuts. I remember Joe Cataldo  asking for a women to get a literal haircut at Marathon house and Joe Geramo nearly lost his mind. First and last time I had ever watched a Director/Owner dress down a senior staff in front of the house. Like I said in a earlier post on another thread Joe Geramo was one of the good ones maybe that is why he is gone, as you know Phoenix House bought them.

Some thoughts spinning in my head right now.......
Ya know when I think about the early 70's it was a time when we just wanted to express ourselves, live free, tell our industrialize parents to go to hell, tell the Gov. to fuck off (Nixon especially), I wanted to smoke pot and hang out with my friends riding around in 65 Ford Vans, go skinny dipping....JUST BE FREE.  What a great time but in my case that was far and few between, the oppression living in my house drove me insane, I had disabilities that weren't being treated which made school a horror story and the rage was building to a breaking point. I believe I dove so hard into drugs and alcohol so I wouldn't put a bullet through my head. Well I actually know this today. Though all those treatment centers I went through were abusive they kept me from killing myself or someone else and that is the plain truth. There has got to be someone out there that can identify with that.
Please don't misunderstand me, I am not advocating TC's just stating a fact.
