If offering my experience as someone who went through treatment is viewed as damage control, so be it. This forum claims to be open to all opinions on the subject, but the posters here do not live up to these idealist claims. This forum is more like Lord of the Flies than the Land of the Free. Free speech exist in America because of the 1st amendment. If this country was in anarchy, as is this forum, then gangs of opposing views would duke it out to see who's view on the truth would outlast, and the other view silenced. Anarchy does not breed for a open discussion, as evidenced on this forum.

To just offer up an experience contrary to the ongoing negative narrative here garners such harsh and immediate response, it's laughable to hear the claims of openness. To the users of this forum, it's a hangout for people who were abused, and they will gang up and fight those who claim anything outside of this expectation. This is the reality of what exists on fornits, and it has been proven again and again, and when the new gullible posters shows up soon it will be proven once again. Not many long term posters here, eventually they get over it? I don't know, but to me most of this forum is a distraction.

It's a distraction from the reality of what exists into today's treatment industry. Why are all the "survivors" that post here from treatment 10, 15, 30 years ago? Most kids go to treatment and are helped and go home and never have a reason to find a site like this, that is evidenced by the relatively small number of posters here. If there is a "holocaust" going on with so many thousands of "gulags" open and kids being "abused" on a daily basis, where are they? I talk to people I went to treatment with, nobody says they saw abuse, and when the term "survivor" comes up they think I'm talking about the CBS reality show.

Fornits version of reality is so skewed, but people continue to come here and feed themselves with the mythology and to them, this becomes reality. What is discussed here is often times not based on reality, this is just a place to reinforce beliefs that could never be reinforced anywhere but fornits, because reality would slowly crumble the mythology upon which fornits reality is based. Sorry that I can be a distraction from fornits reality, but sometimes I feel the need to inject a dose of real reality into this world of mythology that exists solely on fornits.

Good discussion....I really dont need to post this because the topic has been covered very well by others but here are some brief thoughts:

There have been many new regular posters added to fornits recently which are open minded and tolerate both points of view and I think this will help to give more credibility to fornits and allow it to grow and help new posters feel comfortable sharing their experiences without intimidation.  A few years ago new posters with positive experiences would be easily chased away, but now the culture has changed a bit (albeit very little) with added posters besides myself who will stick up for the kids and parents who have had positive experiences and help diminish the size of the dark cloud that hovers above fornits.

As far as “damage control” , this phrase always intrigued me as I was always tagged myself  as one doing “Damage Control” but no one could ever point out what the damage was that I was supposedly trying to control.  The industry has grown from a handful of programs 30 years ago to over 500 programs today.  So the Therapeutic Boarding School industry continues to thrive, expand and grow.  It is providing help to more children today than it has in past years.

I will tell you straight out that kids have been abused in programs and kids have been helped by programs.  But try to ask that question to one of the long time regulars here and you will get:

“Well there are kids who think they have been helped”

“Give it a few years and the kids will realize that they were not helped”

“Most suffer from Stockholm syndrome so of course they say they were helped”

“That’s proof that these kids have been brain washed”

But you will never hear any of them say that a child was ever helped.. I always wondered why that was.  Why the closed mind and the resistance to seeing what is going on around them?

Nothing says credibility like pictures of dead people, but then again, I do not subscribe to the myth that a bunch of parents are coming here for advice. I know they go to the professional consultants who are reality based.

Of course you did not find anything. As stated previously the entire thread is gone. This has happened to a lot of data in the 2 moved which have just occured. The who deleted his post claiming that he repaid his debt to society but the entire thread has been removed.

Actually I do have a record...I was arrested several times in Boston and once in Ann Arbor Michigan...I will never forget they separated me from the others for some reason and I ended up in a cell with 5 other people.  This one hue black guy who was obviously drunk out of his mind kept falling asleep and then falling off his bench...he would then wake up and look right at me and say something like : if you push me again white boy I will "F" you up so much even your mother will not love you.....  I was so scared...

ive been out of asr for a few months now but it honestly still bothers me. it fucked up high school so bad for me. all my friends are applying to college and i have no aps, no extra cirriculars. i never did drugs before i got sent there, i just skipped school. being escorted fucked up the trust with my parents so bad. i still cant believe they did that to me. i understand they were scared but they dont know what it was like spending a year there. when i try to think about it it doesn't even feell like part of my life, it feels so surreal. i cant believe it happened. its easier for me to pretend that a year of my life just vanished because i just dont understand how that could have happened to me. they wasted so much money on it and now i'm starting at a new school for the third time in three years and no one understands how hard it is to adjust. i've gotten no help from asr, even though we paid the 90,000 for a full year there, just because i got pulled instead of graduated. its so hard to explain what its like there.it still scares me. i've had dreams about bitching out the staff there. i just feel literally like part of my life disappeared. like i never get to be a real teenager because halfway through it i was basically imprisoned. this isn't fair.
it makes me so sad to think about because it feels like such a waste. thats my time that i'm never getting back. its such a waste i regret it so much and i didn't even get to make that choice for myself. i didn't even know about it until the night i left. it feels like life-rape like someone took my life and raped it up the asshole. who the fuck would do that to me its so ridiculously not fair. that school is a liar. they took my money and my time so i cant get into or afford college anymore. i mean shit this is my life, its not some fucking game for crc to make money off of. they fucking employed alcoholics, potheads, some crazy bitch who fucked students & bought them alcohol, redneck who beat the kids in dorms. they over medicated us, prescribed us shit thats stronger than a lot of what kids were doing before they got sent away. kids never even met with a doctor, they were prescribed by someone who wasn't even qualified. no confidentiality, bullshit therapy, random dorm searches, harassment. where the fuck is there right pull that shit on us.
kids snorted pills, drank hand sanitizer, were desperate to get out of there. all phonecalls, letters, emails, when they were allowed, were monitered.
no certification for the therapy, underqualified teachers.
they fucking lied. they took our money and our lives and lied to us and left a lot of us worse off than we were before.
treatment shouldn't traumatize. i'm going to have to live with this for the rest of my life when i didn't fucking do shit more than any normal teenager does and i dont deserve this shit. it isn't fair.it isn't fair this fucking bullshit waste of time` program has to be a part of my life now. i dont want to live withh this i dont want it to be a part ofme i jsut want it all to go away. this shouldn't be my life.
