This will probably be an unpopular opinion - but, to the parent "on a mission"  I wanted to throw it out there.

I hear your anger and I can't actually imagine in your situation how you must feel about KIDS.  I just still think of Tony as a victim.  And, I did hear him testify at the recent trial and I really think if we look at it rationally, there is no way that in his role as school psych that he is a danger to children, being "alone with them" etc.  From seeing him on the stand, I feel certain that while he will not renounce MN, that is not the method he uses in his job.

I just question possibly ruining a man's life, (career anyway) - when in my view it is STILL and always will be - just MN and RAM who deserve that consequense.

Interesting opinion Christy, one that I probably agree with...on the other hand, there was a debate on the El Paso board on whether the McCormack's should be relieved of responsibility for what happened in El Paso.

Were they also brainwashed?  When does the responsibility fall on the individual, particularly when Miller's whole "kingdom" has crumbled.  

Should the McCormacks and people like Tony, be held responsible for decisions they made (in the Mc's case) that they have never been repentent for or continue to make, in Tony's case?

I agree with Christy on the point that Tony is "still" a victim of the Newton regime. It's probably hard to think that way since he has abused many of you. Understandable! I was there when he was a phaser and just made it to staff so I have never really seen him in that much action but I can remember him as aggressive. I have read and heard many BAD things about him after I left. I also agree that hunting down Tony through his employer will only cause problems, less if done correctly. A note to the school system is not inappropriate. It is children we are talking about here. A concern is a concern! It's your choice. However I must say that the people involved with the Newtons and/or Semblers to this day need to be watched. There are still operating "straight/kids" like programs out there. How do we know they will not start another "cult" somewhere!? Maybe not tomorrow or a year from now but what about 5 or 10 years from now. Someone like Tony who is weak minded and only thinks one way could be a candidate to start the new and improved KIDS. Of course under another name like "Children Beating Children". It was easy enough for the semblers, the newtons, seebler and others out there. It could be just as easy if we allow people, towns, states to forget Newtons legacy. That should be our focus. Although the occasional bashing of "Newty People" is comical.

As a parent I am concerned that Tony and others like him can influence children in school. It is his way of thinking and his suggestions to the children that worries me the most. I would not want him helping my child. What kind of coping skills will he teach them? If your parents don't follow the same beliefs you should not talk to them? Do we want children who are going through puberty to think the feelings that they have are wrong or abnormal? Do we want them to think that everything they do wrong is cause they have problems instead of just realizing that everyone is not perfect and we all make mistakes.

i've gotta say i think it is perfectly fine to go after tony at his job. not in a negative manner, but merely to inform the school system of his background and direct them to this website. i don't think there is anything wrong with that. it is far from a witch hunt. most of the people on this board experienced his abuse first hand. as far as him being a victim of old man miller, of course he was, but that does not let him off the hook as far as his own behavior goes. i don't think he should be treated lightly, especially when he is in a position of authority over children and there lives. he has shown an abuse of power in the past and there is no reason to believe he won't abuse that power again. i say write the letter and if it destroys his career so what! better to destroy his career than to allow him to potentially destroy the lives of the children he is in charge of. if his own past actions destroy his life, well than too f**king bad! maybe he should try making amends to the people he hurt in the past. he could post on this site if he had the balls! to the parent who posted here, god bless you and good luck!

1) I completely agree that Tony is a victim
just as all of us were and I would hope that
anyone going after him would use some compassion
in going after him.

2) Those on staff at kids, and those on their
higher phases were also "victims". In their role
of "authority" a great deal of damage and suffering
was inflicted on others.

As long as their are programs modelled after kids
and straight, and as long as Tony is thinks that
the treatment model used at Kids is acceptable,
as long as he thinks that no fault lies with Newton
or Kids method of "treatment" he is a threat to any
child, adolescent or teenager he comes in contact with.

and last but not least...

3) Since Miller and Ruth Ann's son was also in Straight,
and they began merely as parents, one could argue that
they too were "brainwashed" or "victims".

I have written at least 4 reviews on various Newton books yet nothing has been posted. I know it takes 5 days but it's been longer.... I'll keep trying!

I really see all those points and my head spins when I try to take a firm stand - the truth is it is just sad and complicated. I spent some time with Tony's Mom at the trial and what is also sad is how much she hurts over what must feel like "losing" him.  I can't say I saw any compassion from him to her when they were in same courthouse.  That is heartbreaking.  She gave birth to him.

I am glad I am not in charge of determining fault b/c I would be a horrible judge!  Personally, for some reason, I feel convicted only about the monumental responsibility and guilt of Miller & Ruth Ann Newton.

Can anyone tell me how to review these books.  I can't seem to be able to find where you can review it.  I would hate to think of Dr. Newton making any money from some poor unsuspecting parents.  Isn't there anything that can be done to undermine the sales?

You can also post your own review up to 1000 words I think. I don't know if there is a limit on reviews, but mine didn't get put up there either.  Maybe it was just too harsh. We'll see in a few days.

When I get it together I'll post a list of people, organizations, etc. who are promoting his books, requiring them for classes, etc. You can find them on the internet, but I bookmarked a bunch.  I'll get to it when I can.
