The Source Residential Program

The Source is a discipleship program designed to help those who want to break out of destructive and sinful patterns of behavior through a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. The program is especially well-suited to address sexual brokenness (e.g. sexual addiction; unwanted same-sex attraction; sexual abuse) and emotional or relational issues (emotional dependency, co-dependency, control, etc.). Many participants in The Source have indicated that, before entering the program, they were "out of control" in their sexual behaviors, and most say they were having problems simply maintaining healthy relationships with others.

The Source begins with pursuing honesty: with oneself, God, family and friends. The focus then shifts to releasing shame, discovering and combating destructive thought patterns, pinpointing triggers and cycles of addiction, finding one's true identity in Christ, learning to identify and express feelings in a healthy way, building healthy relationships with both sexes, and beginning to walk in radical openness and honesty. There is also a special emphasis on facing painful events from the past, acknowledging the pain, and stepping into the process of forgiveness. In pursuing these goals we incorporate the following tools:

  • Spiritual application emphasizing humility, purity, assertiveness, personal boundaries and other biblical principles that are essential to refining the Christian walk of our participants.
  • A structured environment helps establish new routines and healthy patterns of behavior.
  • Evaluating one's thought life helps to counteract negative self-talk and irrational belief systems which perpetuate self-destructive patterns.
  • Workshops on such topics as child development, gender roles, and personal sexuality help answer questions about the root causes of life-dominating sins, which are key to understanding current struggles.
  • Interactive groups are used to bring awareness of underlying issues and to foster internal motivations for change.
  • One-on-one biblical guidance from an assigned staffworker addresses the specific needs of each participant.
  • A personalized care plan with clear, concrete goals targets each person's core issues.
  • Challenging written assignments and interactive projects help the participants gain perspective on their past, present and future, and to understand what is needed for real, lasting change to occur.
  • Opportunities for family involvement are provided to improve communication within the families of participants, and to facilitate marital reconciliation.

The major teachings in The Source include:

  • Honesty
  • Abuse
  • Family
  • Addiction
  • Relationships
  • Future Planning
  • Balance
  • The Blessing
  • Identity
  • Grace
  • Finding a Voice
  • Rebellion/Submission

The 28-Day residential program focuses on providing a set of tools and a roadmap to recovery which have immediate life application upon returning home. For those desiring more time to walk out what they have learned in a safe, supportive environment with a gradual transition back into everyday life, we offer the 3-Month program. Longer programs may be available on a case-by-case basis.

The Source FAQ

How long is The Source program?

Clients originally register for the 28-Day or Three-Month Source program. For those needing additional support, longer programs up to 9 months in length may be available on a case-by-case basis.

How much does the program cost?

The current schedule of fees is as follows:
28 Days: $3,000
3 Months: $6,000
Optional 3-Month extension (months 4-6): $1,500
Additional Months (months 7-9): $500/month

What is included in the program fees?

Lodging in an LIA residential house, all meals, laundry facilities and supplies, transportation to and from required events, program books and materials, group sessions and teachings, one-on-one counsel sessions, and other program activities. Not included: personal toiletry items, pillows and bedclothes, writing utensils, clothing hangers, and personal medical expenses.

When can I start The Source program?

The Source has a flexible intake schedule and always begins on a Monday. Upon application approval (usually within two business days) the incoming client may begin their program the following Monday. We can also set a later Monday start date if so desired.

Where is LIA located?

The Love In Action campus is located at 4780 Yale Road, Memphis, TN, 38128, in the Raleigh area of Memphis.

Can I stay in contact with my friends and family during my program?

There is an initial "No Contact" period of two to three weeks (varies with client need) to allow you to acclimate to the program and focus on what you are working to accomplish. You may then reestablish communication with your closest family members and friends. After these "re-introductions" you may have ongoing contact with them according to the guidelines established by your LIA counselor.

What if there is a family emergency?

In the event of an emergency your family will be placed in contact with you immediately.

What is a typical day like in The Source program?

A typical day begins at the gym, followed by a time for personal devotions and a short chapel service. The rest of the morning consists of two or three interactive group sessions. After breaking for lunch, one or two group sessions are conducted followed by time for work on personalized assignments. Clients meet one-on-one with their assigned staff counselor once per week (more often if needed). Clients share a meal together each evening and then spend time completing assignments for the following day. Recreational time is scheduled on weekends, including game and movie nights. Errand time is also scheduled for clients to purchase personal necessities. Time is spent Saturday mornings maintaining the house and grounds, and clients attend LIA's host church on Sundays. Other activities may include events such as trips to museums, nature hikes, or team-building outdoor elements.

What are the program's areas of focus?

The Source is designed to help clients to: address core issues underlying their struggles; release burdens such as guilt, shame, fear, and inadequacy; experience God's grace, mercy and love by connecting with other believers in healthy, honest relationships; learn practical tools for relating to others in a healthier way; analyze patterns of behavior and learn strategies for resisting temptation; to begin building a support network to help them succeed after their program. Every aspect of The Source is based on our understanding of Scripture and our desire for clients to experience healing and growth in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
