Re: the cable companies
The only thing I like about my cable company is the new cable modem service. The rest of it just stinks. I used to consider stealing cable stealing, but now I figure, that if the cable company is sending signals through my home, I have the right to recieve them, afterall they are not paying me for the use of my property as a relay station for their signals. I do pay, but there is a good rationalization for not paying.
Homeowners associations suck, they made all my neigbors take their direct tv dishes down, and instead of individual service, they are making them all switch their subscriptions to a single local reseller who installed two dishes for the whole row. I can't believe we actually pay them monthly to send us letters of disaproval for everything from when we play our music, to where our newspapers get delivered. Slavish discipline makes a slavish temper... If severity carry'd to the
highest pitch does prevail, and works a cure upon the present unruly
distemper, it often brings in the room of it a worse and more dangerous
disease, by breaking the mind; and then, in the place of a disorderly young
fellow, you have a low spirited moap'd creature, who, however with his
unnatural sobriety he may please silly people, who commend tame unactive
children, because they make no noise, nor give them any trouble; yet at
last, will probably prove as uncomfortable a thing to his friends, as he
will be all his life an useless thing to himself and others... Beating them,
and all other sorts of slavish and corporal punishments, are not the
discipline fit to be used in the education of those we would have wise,
good, and ingenuous men...
