Statistically, it is important to know who the posts come from on this Teen Help forum.

Ginger Warbis, owner and moderator of this board, has flatly stated that, from her technical viewpoint, being able to see ISP's, etc., PURE is not sending all the anti-WWASPS postings.

Checking the most recent archive at voy forum, only one of many other venues for kids to vent about WWASPS experiences, archive #4 being only a small portion of the large volume that forum has, shows 12 survivor-students at WWASPS schools, all of them claiming what society normally considers abuse.  Two other ex-students consider themselves pro-WWASP, although they also claim abuses in WWASPS, the difference being that somehow they think this was OK.

There are currently only about 2000 families on Planet Earth whose kids are in WWASPS programs (perhaps even fewer, as families pull their children as they read negative PR in recent months). Working backwards, when enrollments were much smaller, it works out that somewhere around 6500 or so kids have been a part of the WWASPS program (not including Provo Canyon or Straight, etc., which were not WWASPS but used the same formula).  Ken Kay has vaguely claimed about 15,000 kids, but he sways in his truthful statements to newspapers according to which phase the moon was in the day he made the statement, and so his numbers don't mean much without corroboration.

Several hundred families have joined a class action lawsuit in the making against WWASPS.  This is a large number, considering they must be able by affidavit to prove personal abuse or fraud in court before being approved as plaintiffs, they must know about the suit being planned (i.e., following some sort of Internet source of communication because the suit has not yet hit the newspapers), and be incensed enough to participate, given the fact that the WWASPS experience is so ugly for most families that they try to forget it and move on.

From recent resurrected emails comes some names of pro-WWASPers, including Donna H.[ammill].  Mrs. Hammill has been all over the Internet for at least a year, sometimes openly and sometimes secretly posting about the benefits of her daughter's 26 months in WWASPS.  Perhaps she is one of the Anons posting here. There is a small core group of devoted WWASPS parents, including families who submit stories each and every month to the house magazine, The Source, who are involved in arguing the benefits of their chosen method of child rearing.

PURE is a very small company (I have heard only 3 employees) with a website and a small number of referral clients for behavior modification facilities.  The company is agressive in its small-scale marketing, but really is, again, a very small group of people.  Because of its anti-WWASPS philosophy, it is viewed as a threat to many supporters of WWASPS...and also to the WWASPS corporation, who deems PURE dangerous enough to actually file a defamation suit instead of the usual harassment the legal department uses.

Bottom Line:  There's a lot of us out here who have a real beef with WWASPS.  While wasting time attacking PURE as The Real Enemy, the Rest of Us can have a nice go at the flank and rotten underbelly.  Beware: there are more enemies than you can count, and you're wasting your time going after just this one.

Spots - first of all, I view your real BEEF is not with WWASPS, it's with your daughter and/or her husband - From reading your rantings and ravings on this and VOY, it wouldn't matter WHAT program your grand daughter was in.  Most programs have a similar model regarding correspondence, points, education, visits, restraining, time out, etc.  So unless your granddaughter was in a traditional boarding school, your beef would be directed to that program, in my opinion.

Second, how would Antigen KNOW for a fact that these crazy postings by what appears to be PURE, in fact NOT be?  No way to know.  The PURE supporters have their own computers, the staff probably have access to more than one.  the scenarios are endless, so there really is no way to know for sure.  It's been my judgment that anytime anyone says anything negative toward PURE, that poster gets responses regarding dead horses, old news, etc.  It's not a dead horse, and it's not old news. I find it fascinating that this company is still around with absolutely no accountability to people that need REAL help.

Third - I think you actually believe your fantasy about The Source magazine!  Did you not read the articles from the staff in the latest issue that addressed a question you had on love from a staff person.  You seem to discount any positive story from REAL teens, staff and parents.  I did look at many issues and didn't see any that were from the same teens or families. I did see a few from the same staff person.  A few parents writing? That's a good way to deny the truth.  Go figure.

I'm not privy to the class action.  If I called, could I get the same info you have on the number of people who have joined?  Is that public information? Or did Sue Scheff give it to you personally?

(im sure they will respect you-not)  why dont you tell us who you are?? im sure you have family that would love to know what is happening to their kin. (unless they are heartless0

First, I don't think I would call PURE's marketing aggressive - It seems illegal to me  and definitely unethical.  The court document shows there are no ethics.  WWASPS is a big target and they can do the most damage by using them on their website.  If they only have a small group of schools they refer to, no wonder, no reputable school/program would give them the time of day, at least I wouldn't if I were in that industry.

I recall that Spots asked specifically for responses from former students. She also asked some very specific questions. So far those questions have still not been answered by any former students.

I can vouch for this statement. What Antigen may not be aware of is that many of the PURE trekers are from all over the country.  It is not only those who work in the office of PURE.

Because some of these folks have been posting here since long before PURE ever even existed.

BTW, Spots, you're dead on correct about most people wanting to just move on. I know that not wanting to make war with my own parents when retreat was a viable option played heavily into my decision not to join in the criminal investigation or any of the civil suits against Straight. Even years later, most of the people who happen along here are careful with about what they'll say, how they'll say it and to whom because they've made some kind of peace with their parents and they just don't want to open old wounds needlessly.

There was one case where a parent who's son had died in a drunk driving wreck wrote a really hostile and cruel letter to the St. Pete times in response to a story on Straight. Right away, people who actually knew the folks involved came forward with the other side of the story and all agreed to let the sleeping dog lie in peace. Turns out that it had been this proud Straight graduate who had been falling down drunk and who'd run a red light, causing the accident.

The other car, ironically enough, was full of Straight pull-offs who had not been drinking that night. Neither the police nor anyone else involved saw any reason, either then or now, to compound the suffering of the grieving family by making that little factoid a part of the official record.

In retrospect, maybe that was a bad call. All these years, this guy is aparently seething with hate for the drunken druggiekid who took his son's life, not knowing that his son was the drunk driver in the story.
