The 360° Education

At the Hyde Schools we focus on delivering a 360° degree education. The logic behind our approach lies in the tag line used by our schools "Preparation For Life." As educators we are aware that we are educating children to overcome not just the next hurdle, but to develop skills, and habits of mind and action, that they will use throughout their lives. We have integrated into our schools an essential variety in learning opportunities that give each student multiple occasions in which to be challenged and to excel.

To ensure we are covering all the bases, we use the acronym IPSES (Intellectual, Physical, Social, Emotional, Spiritual). Over the 40+ years of developing our unique approach, Hyde Schools has developed specific tools that are used at our private boarding schools and our public charter schools with a remarkable similarity of approach.

Stay tuned to this blog to learn about how IPSES is carried through a Hyde student's education.

* "...A more complete understanding came to me in 1967, whereupon I formulated the models and concepts that are the foundation of the Quadrinity Process.

These, then, represent my particular insights into the workings of the human mind, which might seem familiar as I describe them. I coined the word Quadrinity. It refers to the four aspects of a human being: physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual. The unique capacities and functions of each aspect can be considered separately, but it is the balance of all aspects working together harmoniously that fulfills us."

-- Bob Hoffman[/li][/list]

* From the Table of Contents for Bob Hoffman's The Negative Love Syndrome and the Quadrinity Model©:

--- Quote ---3. Four Aspects of Self: The Quadrinity

* Physical Self
* Emotional Self
* Intellectual Self
* Spiritual Self

So...basically, Hyde adds the word "Social," but uses the same set-up. Do ya think it's just a coincidence that Hyde describes their process as being "360°," and Hoffman starts out his description of the Quadrinity with the depiction of a simple circle?

Don't think he got his degree in Math there. I thought it was Education. Don't know what his degree was at Bowdoin either....... Maybe Math?

That he taught Math at New Hampton Academy is probably true however.

--- Quote ---The mission of the Hyde Foundation is to establish a better way to prepare American youth for life by introducing and then developing the Hyde character development program in schools, families, and communities nation-wide.

At the center of our philosophy of character development lies the belief that every individual has a unique potential. Our schools and programs are designed to enable every member of a community to explore the depth and breadth of this individual potential. We are inspired as we see students, families and teachers grow in confidence as they take on new challenges and develop their capacity as learners and leaders.

Is this just marketing bullshit or ... outright lies?!
