Excerpt from 2003 Conference Report
« on: August 07, 2003, 10:02:00 PM »
"There were perhaps as many parents from WWASPS as there were parents and survivors from the Straights. One of them, Laurie Berg, a gentle woman from Texas, told us what it was like to have a kid in WWASPS. Actually she adopted her neighbor's son who had been in a WWASPS school. The son has been accepted into one of the nation's military academies. Laurie gave an, impromptu, but eye-opening talk."

Besides Laurie Berg, what other parents attended the conference?  Any of the movers and shakers who post on this board (either as themselves or anonymously) make it down there? What about the COLDWATER movie producer and writers?  Were they there?

:???:

I don't get it.  Wasn't this supposed to be a large group?  In all of the photos I count about a dozen and LOTS of empty chairs.  Was everyone on break when all the photos were taken?

The report says around 35 - Yep.  If you count each person in each picture, but can't do that, the same people are in some of the same pictures.  Yep...about 12!

Sure would be neat if the conference was filmed and available on video or DVD to help with funding future conferences and other related projects. (hint, hint!!)

It only lacked in participation. I counted 37 or 38 people there. There should have been 100 or 200.

That is the number of people in attendance.  I would have thought that there would have been more people there than that.

What a disappointment.

Maybe some of the attendees did not want to be photographed or asked Wes not to publish their pictures online for personal reasons?

Most likely there are LEGAL reasons why some people who attended the conference don't want their identity known on this forum.

The conference spanned two days.  Some of the 37 were speakers who came and went.  Others were attendees who were there just Saturday or Sunday,  while still others were there both days. And yes,  one was a film producer who did film almost everything.

Next year we're going to get everybody there from all these programs and map out a strategy of how to deal with this spiraling national phenomenon.  There's been talk of holding it in Washington, DC.  or perhaps other areas.  If anybody would like to sponsor next year's conference,  now's the time to start thinking about it and let us know your ideas.

Thank you,

Wes

Any more details on the film producer?  Was this for the real-life documentary being made by the COLDWATER,THE MOVIE producer?

What I don't get is that SO MANY people post on this board about abuse, but when there is an actual CONFERENCE to address this, and do something about it - very FEW people came in support???

Wht is an acceptable excuse for NOT attending?  There are none!  Sitting behind a computer screen as a release or journaling therapy, but when it comes time to put the pedal to the metal you just have too many other things to do?  Put your money where your MOUTHS are and buy a damn airline ticket next year. If what you are complaining about here is really important, wouldn't you want to make a difference by showing your support?

What I also get is that there aren't enough people out there to make it worthwhile next year either.

So let's see, with Lee and Nancy Colburn and possibly one another woman from Texas, that makes 4 people who attended the conference, not counting the founder of PURE and/or anyone else affiliated with this organization who has yet to STAND UP AND BE COUNTED.

Integrity?  Acountability?  Courage?

Perhaps if you practiced what you preach, you would not be so reviled by truth-seekers.

Here's an idea. Put the court record online and charge people $25.00 to read it with all monies collected to be donated to next year's conference.

Not a bad idea, but is it legal?

I do not recall seeing any of the people here who continue to inquire about the conference?

Why were YOU not there?

It is about the children, however, to protect them there are many issues at hand.

Melissa, you are VERY incorrect with YOUR statement about MY concerns & what I have done or my family's has accomplished.  I'd be very happy to converse with YOU further as to what each of us has accomplished & is fighting for.  I can just about guarantee YOU that our paths are similar contrary to YOUR previous statements.

Kindest Regards,

Lee

Okay, so 4 parent volunteers from Texas plus Sheff/Berryman = 6.

How hard was that?
