Simple AARC Questions
« on: February 09, 2009, 03:58:38 PM »
AARC claims that they are treating a brain disease.  This is how AARC describes the disease:
"The AARC program is based on the fundamental that addiction is a disease. Adolescent addiction is defined as a psycho-social, genetic, chronic, progressive and relapsing disease affecting every dimension of the adolescent and their family members’ lives."
http://www.aarc.ab.ca/the_AARC_program.html

Now if AARC is treating this disease, is their staff performing a Restricted Activity as per the Health Professionals Act?
Here are some points about Restricted Activities:
Restricted Activities in Brief

* Restricted activities are regulated health services that by law can only be performed by individuals with specific competencies.

* Professions do not own or have exclusive rights to perform restricted activities.

* Members of several different professions may be authorized to perform the same restricted activity.

Now let us recall, the Wiz has no specific competencies related to providing health care.  He is a phys ed teacher.  His Clinical and Peer staff likewise are not members of any health care profession and do not have specific competencies in health care.

Here is a list of Health Professions in Alberta.  The Wiz, and his Clinical and Peer staff are members of none of these professions.

Interested readers will no doubt notice that neither the professions of phys ed teacher, nor guidance counselor, appear in this list.
So, is the AARC staff illegally performing Restricted Activities, or are they not?

Psychologists? Really? Who is a psychologist at AARC?

Vause is stated to be a psychologist in this newsletter from 1998? http://www.aarc.ab.ca/images/media/befo ... efroma.pdf

According to recent graduates (this past year) AARC had a registered nurse but they didn't receive any treatment from her.

According to these graduates  the "medical treatment" for their "disease" was performed by Dean Vause (not a medical doctor OR a psychologist) and peer counselors (recent graduates themselves) and for the most part other clients in the program!

If you've got proof there are psychologists, doctors, social workers on staff it would be within THIS past year.

How long as AARC been in operation? Winging it for the last 17 years were they?
