>Dundee Mother Claims Robbery,
>Death Threats Being Probed
>By Tim Rogers
>trogers@ticotimes.net
> Robin Crawford with son Cody.
> TT/ Julio Lainez
>The mother of a former student at Dundee Ranch Academy claims the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in St. George, Utah opened an investigation yesterday of telephone death threats against her and a burglary of her home in Dundee, Oregon.
>
>Robin Crawford and her son Cody are the primary witnesses of alleged abuse at the former tough-love school in Costa Rica.
>
>The Tico Times yesterday was unable to receive FBI confirmation that an investigation has been opened.
>
>Crawford came to Costa Rica last June to pick up Cody, who escaped from Dundee Ranch Academy -- an affiliate of the St. George, Utah-based WorldWide Association of Specialty Programs (WWASP) -- during the May 20 police intervention and ensuing riots and was taken in my a Costa Rican family. She and her son spent a month in Costa Rica giving testimony of alleged abuse and mistreatment suffered by Cody while at Dundee (TT, June 6; May 22, 30).
>
>Upon returning to her home June 30, in Dundee, Oregon, Crawford claims she received several telephone death threats from an unidentified male caller who told her he was stalking her and was going to kill her.
>
>Two weeks later, on July 14, Crawford says her home was burglarized while she was visiting her father. She claims the robber(s) stole two cameras and a large plastic bag that contained WWASP documentation, contact information of other Dundee students and parents and the criminal complaint she filed against Dundee with Costa Rica's Judicial Investigative Police (OIJ).
>
>To the casual observer, the bag of documentation looked like "a bag of junk," and no other valuables -- including computers, DVD player, TV and expensive artwork -- were stolen, Crawford told The Tico Times during a phone interview from Oregon yesterday.
>
>"I have no idea what this is about," Crawford said, adding that she had never received any threats before her trip to Costa Rica.
>
>Meanwhile, Cody, 16, was arrested July 18 and placed in the custody of the Oregon Youth Authority after allegedly attacking several juvenile department staff members and a sheriff's deputy in an Oregon courtroom after being asked to take a urinalysis test for marijuana, according to the News Register newspaper in Oregon.
>
>Upon returning to Oregon, Cody had to appear before the judge who had agreed to send him to Dundee as an alternative punishment, following his arrest last April for attempted burglary, trespassing and theft.
>
>The urine test ultimately proved positive for marijuana use and Cody was placed under state care while arrangements are made for foster care, according to the news report.

The home of an ISAC member was also robbed.  See link below for further details.

Those who got robbed should seriously consider getting someone to sweep for listening devices. Ask your lawyers which company they use, most law offices are swept for bugs often. Oftentimes a burglary is just a cover for bugging the house, phones and computer lines. Check the back of your computers and phones for anything unusual.

Buy a gun too, put a sign outside that says something like  "This house protected by Glock security technology."

Cell phones do use some methods to protect privacy. They use frequency jumping so that it becomes very difficult to pick up more than a tiny piece of a call since they would have to know the variable that has been set to determine which frequency is next. I think most newer phones (the last year or two) use built in encryption as long as they are supported by the network you are on.

I would say they are much more secure than portable home phones which can be listened to quite easily.

The biggest privacy hole these days is email. An email is very easily intercepted and more importantly it can almost be guaranteed to be somewhere stored long after you delete it.

Maybe the mother needs to look at the possibility that one or several of her son's friends did the deed.  That makes more sense than some underground parent group forming to get her - paranoia!

To the casual observer, the bag of documentation looked like "a bag of junk,"

How long was Cody at Dundee Ranch?  Two weeks prior to the rioting?  Mom has a LARGE bag (trash bag?) of supposedly IMPORTANT documents.  Doesn't that seem unlikely to anyone...Just having a "trash" bag laying around??  If it contained important documentation, a safety deposit box or a file cabinet, anything besides a trash bag would be a safer choice.  What did she take pictures of?  The damage her son helped to create?

Now, IF I were in this situation and I didn't find anything that would implicate Dundee in any wrong doing, but i had spent a lot of time trying to prove they were abusing MY kid, to save face I just might go as far as making it look like a person within big bad wwasp was out to get me.  This kid is not someone I would believe - not a single word.  Mom would look like a fool now that she believed what he said and found nothing to back it up.  What's a good way to save face?  Say I was robbed!  My guess is there was nothing - Afterall, she put this stuff in a trash bag.

I've been reading a lot of paranoia, as well, on this board this week.  I don't have a vested interest in wwasp so I can see both sides. Accusations toward each other, posters trying to make wwasp look stupid by pretending to be wwasp. It borders on the macabre.

WWASP doesn't need a PR firm.  All they have to do is direct people to this site to see all the internal bickering.

Bull****. A couple of clues.
"Accusations toward each other, posters trying to make wwasp look stupid by pretending to be wwasp."

"This kid is not someone I would believe - not a single word."

No, doesn't seem at all unlikely to me. In my home they might have been laying out on my desk. One assumes that their home is safe. Afterall, she's not involved in a Watergate fiasco, or is she?  What seems more likely is that you are not a neutral party.
What was it you were saying about Paranoid postings this week. Looks like you have your own brand of paranoia going. This Industry breeds it. You seem to be one of the more intelligent WWASP supporters.

Having important documents in a plastic bag seems safer than having a huge folder saying "WWASP FILES".

I just think from what I'm reading all over this forum is that there was NOTHING important to begin with.  No one is saying she faked it, just that it could be one way to "save face" after believing her son about abuse at Dundee.  I don't believe everything I read in the papers, so if this kid is still in trouble is none of my business.
