Internet Addiction Disorder...

Is that some sort of new psychological alphabet soup disorder? I wonder if I could claim SSI with it if I had a doctor's note?

Still.. My 1 size fits all therapy for IAD victims..

1) Take hammer..
2) Smash computer..
3) Whack victim on the head for good measure for being a butthead.

no no no thats no fun.

find internet port, unplug cable, cut cable, replace the end into the port and tell the kid we now have wireless internet. remove the rest of the cable so they cant tape it and your done.

hours of enjoyment for the adult.

Sue Scheff has been blabbing about the dangers of internet addiction for some time. LOL. What it basically means is an excuse to lock up half us fornicators she hates.

That's not necessary.  Unless you can crimp on another end (in which case it probably won't reach), the cable will be useless.  Ethernet is pretty picky about signal quality.  Chances are 99.9% that a cable stitched back together with tape will be useless for any transmission of any sort of high bitrate digital signal (yes.  making ethernet cables was one of my duties at a job I used to work at).  Better advice would be: don't teach the kids how to make ethernet cable, and if you do, hide the crimpers.

Or better yet: don't be a 'tard.  Determined kids will find a way to get on the net, whether it be by neighbor's wireless, cell phone data networks, or other means.  On the plus side, the process will require them to learn about technical things which can be useful for future careers (which they will probably hate, at least if they get stuck with a govt. contractor).

I think my network at work is wireless anyway. To many kids running around to have ethernet cables laying all over the place.

all i know about computers is how to use the keyboard and use forums, and get wifi signal. other than that dont know it.

but still this is a more common disorder in japan and china than the us.

from wiki

"According to the Center for Internet Addiction Recovery (whose director is Kimberly S. Young, a researcher who has lobbied for the recognition of net abuse as a distinct clinical disorder), "Internet addicts suffer from emotional problems such as depression and anxiety-related disorders and often use the fantasy world of the Internet to psychologically escape unpleasant feelings or stressful situations."[11] Over 60% of people seeking treatment for IAD claim involvement with sexual activities online which they consider inappropriate, such as excessive attention to pornography or involvement in explicit sexual conversations online.[12] More than half are also addicted to alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or sex.[11]"

so here again people could clam it is a gate way addiction.  i can see it now

Is your child addicted to the internet? if they are they may also be addicted to alcohol, drugs, sex, or smoking. this is a dangerous blah blah blah.... for help contact ...

Used to be when people were depressed they would stay inside and do things like read books to escape from the misery of their lives (in addition to drinking and doing drugs which, contrary to popular belief, have been around for a very very long time).  At least back then they had the good common sense to call it depression and not "book addiction".  The fact that the internet is the same everywhere, yet the "problem" is worse in Asia should say something.

Bunch a fucking 12 stepper zealots gone bonkers is what this bullshit is.  While I don't normally condone murder, if I could go back in time and run Bill Wilson over with a bus, I would (no joke.  I really would)...  and i'd probably put the thing in reverse too just to make sure the job was done.

OOH.  Movie idea.  Something like Terminator: Rise of the 12 Steppers.
