CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

The Calgary Police Service has charged a local man in
relation to a homicide that occurred in June 2006.

Shortly before midnight on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, residents
in the 200 block of Shawmeadows Road S.W., heard what they
believed to be a single gunshot.

While calling 911, these residents checked on the welfare of
a lone adult male, occupying a late-model, medium-grey Ford
Mustang. The adult male was deceased.

Autopsy results confirmed that Ali KHAMIS, 30, of Calgary,
died as a result of a single gunshot wound.

On Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, police charged two Calgary men
in relation to this incident.

Cody William BATES, 22, has been charged with one count of
first-degree murder. Jason Malin WOODS, 19, has been charged
with one count of manslaughter.

On Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, police arrested another man
alleged to have been involved in this homicide.

Justin Patrick GITTENS, 25, has been charged with
manslaughter, robbery and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Police believe this incident was not random, and that the
victim and accused were associated.

Because this case is currently before the courts, the Calgary
Police Service is unable to further comment on this arrest.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

RELEASED BY THE PUBLIC AFFAIRS/MEDIA RELATIONS UNIT FOR
S/SGT. KEVIN FORSEN OF THE HOMICIDE UNIT.

Gang member charged with attempted murder
Updated: Wed Dec. 03 2008 15:35:12

ctvcalgary.ca

A man police say is a known gang member has been charged with four counts of attempted murder.

Shaun Roberts, 24, is also facing four counts of discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life in connection to a shooting in Chinatown two weeks ago.

During that incident, Roberts was shot in the face. While recovering in hospital he was placed under police guard for his own protection. "Roberts is a target, there are other people out there who wish to do him harm and if Mr. Roberts was left unattended at the hospital that would leave opportunity for perhaps some other person to attend the hospital and execute him," says Acting S/Sgt. Gord Eirikson of the police's gang unit.

On Tuesday, he was taken into custody as soon as he was released from hospital. He arrived at the police's arrest processing unit still wearing his hospital gown.

Police have also charged Daniel Landry, 23, Marcel Landry, 25, Chantha Kim, 31 and a 17-year-old male with the same charges at Roberts.
