Pathway opens new drug treatment center

Pathway Family Center, an adolescent drug treatment center, has relocated to a new site in Porter.

Pathway has announced that it has assumed the lease from McDaniel Fire Systems for a 9,000 square foot building at 804 Canonie Drive. Pathway will not need to make a lease payment or pay utilities through May under its partnership with McDaniel.

Pathway, which provides substance abuse treatment programs for youth ages 13 to 21, has facilities in Indianapolis, Ohio and Michigan. Bringing a local Pathway branch to Porter County to help deal with the area’s substance abuse problems has been a top priority for the non-profit Porter County Community Action Drug Coalition.

Pathway has operated the Northwest Indiana Assessment Center in Chesterton, which has provided drug screening, clinical assessment, treatment referral, and community outreach, as well as a 24-hour parent help line. The assessment center has now moved to the new site on Canonie Drive.

Terri Nissley, president and CEO of Pathway Family Center, said the partnership with McDaniel Fire Systems, in which Pathway will not need to pay rent or utilities, will allow the agency to implement the final phase of its strategic plan serving families affected by addiction.

“The partnership with Pathway Family Center is another way for McDaniel to give back to the community that has supported our business for more than 72 years,” said Steve Hubick, president of McDaniel Fire Systems. “In these difficult economic times, we are truly blessed to be in the position where we can do this and help meet a critical need in Porter County.”

Pathway also announced that it has raised $600,000 of the $1.2 million needed for the long-term operations of the adolescent treatment center. Funding sources for Pathway have included $200,000 in start-up funds from the county’s income tax revenues.

To obtain a confidential no-charge assessment, contact Pathway at the Porter office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 926-2583 or call the 24-hour parent help line at 1-800-261-4605. To make a donation or to request a sponsorship packet, contact Laurie Franke-Polz, 804 Canonie Drive, Porter, Ind., 46304 at the above phone number. Pathway’s web site is (not here)

Plan B is now in effect... Although not the most desirable choice, but both logical and nevertheless necessary.
