This is not an answer to the question, just some thoughts on the subject.
This is just from memory, so don't quote me on this but a diagnosis of Oppositional defiance disorder or Conduct disorder are only clinical diagnoses. Here is a definition I found.
Clinical Diagnosis: A working hypothesis based on collected symptom data, both subjective and objective, which are used to consider potential cause-and-effect relationships.I think the key word here is potential.
Another definition: Oppositional defiant disorder is a pattern of disobedient, hostile, and defiant behavior toward authority figures.
Well, I guess the founding fathers had ODD then.
I guess the difference in diagnosis is whether it is a bio-chemical problem or a behavioral problem. Either of which are present in normal children. So how is ODD real again?
This is funny, I found this under the diagnosis section of an ODD explanation page: Because many of these behaviors are found frequently in
normal children, making the diagnosis of Oppositional Defiant Disorder can be difficult.
Really? No kidding? That's just crazy.
There is no real ODD or CD if you ask me, if there was a disorder that was real, I would call it Clueless Parent Disorder (CPD) or Clueless Doctor Disorder (CDD) or maybe Greedy Dishonest Businessman Syndrome..... you get the point.
The DSM4 sucks. It's mostly a big social control, money making fake-a-roo.
I am against psychiatric medications being WAY over prescribed and Scientology. Weird.
Read this kickass article I found on this topic. It mentions behavior modification and sums up my position on this:
