Need for Unique Services
« on: September 14, 2007, 10:33:05 AM »
The AARC program is based on the fundamental that chemical dependency is a disease. Adolescent substance abuse is defined as a psycho-social, genetic, chronic, progressive and relapsing disease affecting every dimension of the adolescent and their family members’ lives.

Once a referral is made, the assessment process determines the extent of the adolescent’s chemical dependency. Youth who meet the admission criteria receive a full diagnostic assessment to determine an appropriate treatment plan.

Treatment fees are assessed based on a family’s ability to pay.

Professional Comments Regarding Need for Unique Services

Dr. Alan Stanhope goes on to comment in support of the need for AARC’s unique services, in a letter to Mr. Jim Dinning, written September 2, 1993: “ I am the medical officer who looks after the children who are in care at this establishment. During the course of my work, I have been involved with a number of alcohol and drug rehabilitation centres, and thus, I feel qualified to express some opinions on AARC. As you well know, there are very few treatment centres available in this province and, in fact, throughout Canada. Therefore, it is very fortunate that the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre was founded…I have been able to observe the program and to form some opinions as to the efficacy of this treatment…I can state without any hesitation that this is one of the finest treatment centres I have come across, and it is in fact unique in its particular format.â€

How many years has AA been around?  There are still people fighting to close it.

They have nothing but this site. You're right!

Keep putting up the Good News Stories about AARC.  It really seems to bother them!

Go check out the site in my signature.  I'm not trying to 'close' anything.  Just give people a fighting chance by arming them with facts.  They need to  make up their own minds but you guys love to try and confuse the issues and throw around statistics that you pull directly out of your ass.

Let's talk research and numbers.   You say 'hundreds' or 'thousands' (can't remember which right now) have been 'helped' or 'saved'.  Care to back that up with objective, long term research and studies?  Not exit surveys, parents surveys or other bullshit.  Real, honest to goodness studies.

Ya know what AA's own Dr. George Valliant found when he did the one and only study that AA would allow?  He found that not only did AA produce the identical 'success' rate as spontaneous remission (doing nothing) 5%, but actually increased the death rate.

The TTI doesn't want long term, comprehensive studies done on them.  They know they'd fail.  Miserably.

"Anne"  what would you, or how would you help, where would you point someone, if they really needed help.  Do you have an alternative, if my child needs severe intervention?  Where should I go, in your expert opinion?  Can anyone help?

I believe that the VAST (    ) majority of kids do not need out of home placement.  Parents need to regain their critical thinking skills and stop listening to the fear mongerers.  Kids are going to scare the shit out of you.  Period.  No parent gets through their kids' adolescence unscathed, nor do the kids.  Its' a part of the growing up process.  My oldest daughter (I'm so sorry to all those who are tired of hearing this) drove me crazy and scared the life out of me for over 5 years.  She's now 22 and in nursing school.  Her grandparents (former Straight parents) were terrified and absolutely sure she'd end up deadinsaneorinjail if we didn't "do something".  Oh my god, do something.    They wanted me to put her in a Straight clone program.  I flatly refused obviously.  I said 'over my dead body' and meant it.  They would have had to kill me before I let that happen.

Thank god, because she turned out to be a great kid.  I shudder to think what would have happened to that beautiful spirit if the mindrapers had gotten ahold of her.

For the most part, yeah. What do you suggest?  Forcibly making someone change?  What good would that do?  They'd only be changing to either avoid punishment or try and please you or staff.  It wouldn't be lasting.

If you ahve a truly disturbed child that you are sincerely worried that they'll hurt themselves or someone else (suicide or homicide, not just cuz they're using drugs, drinking, rebelling) then GET THEM MEDICAL HELP, NOT A MINDFUCK!!

He's talking about a 12 year old girl whose parents were so fucked up that their daughter had a boyfriend in his twenties.  The girl and the boyfriend killed the girl's family.

It was the Parents' fault? You people really are in a world of your own.  The parent's were fucked up?

It's a sad disease we all have.  Such a disease. Text book addicts.

I was treated at Pine Lodge.  You should look it up.

And go.

Why would I need to go?  My life is great, I enjoy the occasional spliff and drink.  If you can't handle it, don't fucking do it.

Are you suggesting it's the 12 year old's fault???  Like I said, the more you post, the deeper you dig yourself in a hole

Damn.

No, the parents did a great job.  That's why their pubescent daughter had an adult boyfriend.
