Morbid Coincidence
« on: May 07, 2003, 04:19:00 PM »
Part of life is death, that is inevitable, sad but true. Granted we all must die sometime so try to make the most out of what you are now and keep living as long as you can.
For the last 15 years or so, I have been experiencing a "morbid coincidence" of sorts, where people I know, whether through personal contact or casually in the goings on of business, etc... die. I know that cops, medical people, funeral directors, etc they see death all the time and such, but "regular folk" like me usually don't. This could be a way off self observation, but, there has not been more than 6 months pass inbetween deaths of people I have associated with in one way or another for the last 15 years. Most recently, a fellow survivor's dad is going to pass away soon, and our family lost an aunt a couple months ago, and the list gets longer it seems all the time. The one guy that bought my gold for it's face value died last September. He was a rabbi and not concerned so much with making a profit off of my labors as much as he was happy to know that there were still people he could "trust" to provide 24K gold when he wanted it. Now I have to sell to the greedy bastards, but anyway... Is this a cycle that will end eventually? Am I an omen? You all see that avitar, that's what I deal with all the damn time. It's like "who's next?" Just last night, the family I was visiting just lost a dog they had for over 10 years. I wonder if people out here have similar experiences and if you can offer some kind of suggestions. I already heard the one where I am supposed to stay away, LOL... But, seriously, when people die, it's sad and the living seek comfort, answers, etc. Most people I would imagine go through several grievings in their life, but for people that are never given time to finish grieving for friends, relatives, co workers, etc, what gives? Seriously, what is one to do? Just forget it? Who else can *relate to* {sorry for the lingo there} understand that?

This is a bit off topic, but I think deer like me to kill them with my truck. I have killed probably 20 deer since being in straight, inc. I swerve, dodge, brake for, you name it all of them, but they still end up getting hit. Not one year passes that I don't kill one. There's drivers out there that NEVER hit any. Don't even mention squirrels, rabbits, snakes, 2 cats, and possums. I lost count of them years ago.

Count your blessings. At least it hasn't hit too close to home. People die, that's life. If you protect yourself, you last longer. Accidents  happen though. It's a miracle that most of us are here today. I've lost many. Some very close to home. It is tragic, but so is life at times. We all go through it. I doubt you're a hex dude. Live on.

This may sound like the stupidest thing that you ever heard, but life has proven this concept to be true and I think it may fundamentally be conditioning/recognition or some other phenonomenon I never read about in psych 101.
I have a concept that I have named the "whitus surburbus theorem" stupid name, I know, allow me to explain.  Last year my in laws bought a new white surburban and it was nice, I complimented them, etc. never having seen such a mundane vehicle look so cool in my very own opinion.  It wasn't 2 days before I started to notice white surburbans EVERYWHERE.  I would turn on the tv and the family in the sitcom I was watching were in a white surburban.  The video on mtv had a white surburban, there was a white surburban two doors down from my house, I saw one advertised for sale in the newspaper, I looked over while stopped at a traffic light, white surburban. surburbans..surburbans..surburbans!!!  Everywhere!  This happens frequently with me on other issues as well.  I was recently in the market for a new car and all of the sudden from no where I realized that every other bloody commercial on television is regarding an automobile...Dodge...Chevrolet...Ford...GMC...etc and my mailbox was soon full of "snail mail spam" junk mail regarding low apr financing, hail sales, and other specials.  I was inendated (sp?) and overwhelmed with information regarding purchasing a new car.

To summarize, I believe that this concept is actually more a realization and subsequent recognition of events.   Generalization in a way.  In other words if all of the sudden you saw someone with red hair and green eyes that you found attractive for whatever reason, it would not be surprising if the next day at the grocery store you spotted someone else with red hair and green eyes that reminded you of the individual that you found attractive the day previous and so starts the chain of events that goes on as long as you allow yourself to nbe distracted by such details.

In closing, I think you are more a victim of the "whitus surburbus theorem" than you are a omen of looming death.  I am confident enough of that to respond to your post without fear of being jinxed!  I think it is more your recognition of death and it's prevalence in life and with all those associated with you.

I take all commentary back if you wear a black hooded cloak, look like your avatar, and carry a scyth.  You ARE death and those that you encounter should be leary....and run.

I hope some of this made some kind of sense.

Yeah, this makes sense. It's like the way a con man will lead someone on by saying something like "People who always notice the number 11 are especially attuned to detail" or a palm reader might phrase it differently "If you see the number 11 everywhere you look, it means ______."

Naturally, you'll start noticing how damned many 11's can be found around you all the time.

Oh, and just for fun? In Florida, white cars are very popular because, well, most people don't like to get baked every time they drive somewhere from around April to November. I think my kids are still trying to figure out why white cars are almost always at the end of the line at a stop light.
lol!

Right, Anti.  Exactly.  I forget the website but there is a  huge(?) following of those that are preoccupied with the number 11.  My brother is one of those fanatics and everything is either 11 or becomes 11 if you add or subtract some numbers here and there.  It is kind of odd and even I have been possessed with the 11 bug at times.  I look at the clock and it's 11:11.  I read TIME magazine to learn that the shuttle Columbia was on it's 111th flight or something and it was the 11th mission for a crew member, or I forget the actual coincidences involved.  Also, many 11's in with September 11, 2001.  To include the date, possibly 11 total terrorists involved and the symbology of the twin towers representing the number 11, etc.  The website has a pics of druid looking people at a stonehenge looking location and mentions the "11" portal and the significance of other double numbers if I remember correctly.

Some other fascinating number stuff includes studies on the Golden Triangle/Rectangle/Ratio/Fibonacci Sequence as it is found in nature.  Someone more math inclined maybe better equipped to explain the meaning, I know next to nothing on the subject and can't even spell mathamatics (?).
A few examples include a pine cone.  Have you ever noticed that the petals kinda spiral up in two directions?  Well, the number of petals it takes to get once around is almost always a Fibonacci number.  Why are four leaf clovers so rare? (Four isn't a Fibonnaci number.) Everything seems to comply with this principal of mathamatics.  From how many leafs on a pot plant, to how many seeds are on the outside of a strawberry, to how many rings cascade from a coin dropped in water.

I have found myself noticing blue chairs everywhere.  I was at a funeral some time ago for someone that was involved with the program and in the back of the church there was a stack of blue chairs and it just looked "wrong".  There are also many blue chairs in the new Red Hot Chili Peppers video "can't stop" that is in the media section of their website.  Seeing a guitar player jamming while standing on a blue chair and then showing images of a white room with blue chairs scattered about (as when someone was restrained in group) almost seems too coincidental

Meanwhile, I'd like to send some blank shirts and another design, you up to screenin them?

Sure, I'm into that idea. I'm just a bit disappointed that no-one else wants a FREE t-shirt Bill, it's troubling to me. I'm perplexed. Did I not mention they were FREE? I make those, so that someday, some ex-straightling, who is sifting through a rack at their local Goodwill comes across it and is like, ?Holy shit, no way!? And buys that for a dollar. And other reasons. My little parts in the world.
Send me an e-mail or whatever.
